Washington / Cascades Campgrounds

I am looking for campground ideas in Washington. Anybody have campground recommendations for the Mt Baker Hwy 542 area? How about North Cascades Hwy 20 area? We are doing some early planning for this summer's trip. Boondocking is ok

If Boondocking is O.K. the x-country ski area across from Silver Firs campground might work. I also believe there is an overflow area for that campground on the other side of the highway from the campground. I would NOT take your motor home into any of the Mt. Baker Nat'l forest c.g.'s without scouting first. Otherwise the nearest r.v. parks would be Lynden, B'ham or Ferndale.

As far as North Cascades, what side of the mountains are you looking? West side there is an r.v. park in Concrete. Baker Lake and Newhalem both have campgrounds you would fit in. On the other side of the hump is Early Winters, Pearygin Lake. We stay at River Edge RV park in Twisp.

We have stayed at Colonial Creek CG in SR 20. It is just outside Diablo, on the lake, and convenient for the Diablo Dam tours - check with Seattle City Light for tours. The web says it has a 22 ft max.

We also like Howard Miller Steelhead Park just E of Concrete. Nice park on the river.

Recommend Howard Miller Steelhead Park in Rockport, very modern and pleasant, clean and well-maintained, right on the river, just off Hwy 20, can accommodate large m/h and clear sky for sat reception. Also north from there on Baker Lake Road is Swift Creek Campground on the west side of Baker Lake. We stayed there in a 32' about 6 yrs ago.

Grandy Creek (KOA & Thousand Trails) is one of the campgrounds near Concrete. Lots of trees, so roof-top sat reception can be challenging if you don't snag one of the spaces with a good south view.

The HM Steelhead Park along the Skagit River mentioned above is very nice. That would probably be my first choice if you don't fit Colonial Creek.

There's not much between Marblemount and Winthrop. In Winthrop, we've stayed at Pearrygin SP and also at Silverline, a private CG on the same lake. Rather hot and dusty in the summer months!

I am considering traveling east to west on Hwy 20....I would like to spend some time in the area hiking, fishing, relaxing. I'm thinking two campgrounds, one on each side of the "hump" would be ideal.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far....

We camp at Baker Lake every summer. We love the Horseshoe Cove USFS but no hookups.

If you want hook ups Baker Lake
