My husband has to do a site visit to Newport,RI in April. Since I will be staying at the coach all day with my Golden Retriever I wanted something other than a "wide place in the road". I found this campground in West Kingston, RI called Wawaloam. It doesn't open until May 1, but I called them and they said we could stay there anyway. It seems like a very nice place and even has a security gate. I realize all the amenities may not be up and running at the end of April, but I wondered if anyone had ever stayed there?

Glenda:
You might want to check out Fishermen's State Park in Narragansett, RI. It is right next to the ocean and is probably the best campground in the state system. They have full hookups and allow dogs. April will not be a problem in getting a site. You can check this out by going to www.riparks.com and then searching for Fishermen's Memorial Park. By the way, a great local place to eat at is called Charlie O's and it is within walking distance of the campground.

The last I knew, pets were not allowed at any state parks in Rhode Island, so be sure to ask if the policy has changed. Another campground to check out is Normandy Farms in Foxborough, MA. Their indoor pool is great this time of year. If you call be sure to request the 25% discount coupon.
