We just finished our first trip to the North East

We just finished our first trip to the North East. WE really had a good time. So much different than the western part of the US or Florida. Some of the things we did:
At Charlotte NC we visited the Billy Graham Library.
At Staunton, VA we visited the Woodrow Wilson Pres Library & Museum, Woodrow Wilson’s Birthplace, and Monticello, Thomas Jefferson’s Plantation.
At Hagerstown MD we visited Gettysburg National Military Park Museum, Harper's Ferry, and Antietam Battlefield.
At Lancaster PA we visited Valley Forge National Park and toured the Amish area.
At Bristol, CT we visited the Mark Twain Museum and the Charles W. Morgan Whaling Ship.
At Salisbury MA we visited Plum Island, Gloucester, and Portsmouth.
At Bar Harbor, ME we went to Acadia National Park.
At Burlington Vermont we visited the Shelburne Museum, Vermont Teddy Bears, Ben & Jerry',s, and Stowe VT.
At Grand Island, NY we visited Niagara Falls and Lockport to see the massive locks on the Erie Canal.
From there we stared a leisurely trip home planning on staying a couple of days in Columbia, SC and a couple in Savannah, GA. But when we got to Columbia, Hurricane Michael was due to arrive the next day. so we just drove straight home to avoid the weather. The 400 miles home is further than we normally drive in one day. Most of the trip we only drove around 200 miles in a day.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your trip. We have traveled all around our country and have enjoyed every part of it. I do have to say that my Northeast home calls me back every time. I have discovered that I need trees in my life. Leafy, colorful, and varied up and down the slopes of ancient mountains.

Maybe it's true... There's no place like home. It's certainly true for me.

Good luck in your travels and maybe I'll see you down the road.

Sounds like you had a great trip with a lot of sightseeing. I would love to see a list of the CGs you stayed in and your thoughts on them.

Sounds like a great trip.

We too were chased out of the southeast due to Mr. Michael.

Continue to enjoy the adventures.

Sounds like a great trip.

I'm going to copy those places down on our list as I think we're heading that way next summer.

I, too, would love to see a list of the CG's you stayed at! We're planning a trip up the Northeast coast, and am unsure of where to stay.

We also just got back to TX after an 18000mile trip around the US, including Niagara/ VT/ME/MA/MD and DC. Could have taken a month in DC and not seen everything. If you don't like traffic/crowds/$$ spending, would not do it--but Washington DC is one of a kind.
In DC, the only CG I would use is Cherry Hill Park (check out campgroundreviews.com) they have the tourist thing down to a science.

We also did a 6 week Upper New England / New Brunswick trip this past Aug 15 to Oct 1st.

~ 5 nights at Worlds End State Park in NE. PA.
~ 4 nights at Gifford Woods State Park in central VT.
~ 7 nights at Lake Dunmore's Kampville in North Central VT.
~ 4 nights at Fransted Campground in Franconia Notch / White mtn NH.
~ 3 nights at Jigger Johnson US Forest Service in Southern White Mtn. NH.
~ 7 nights at Blackwoods (Acadia National Park) Maine
~ 7 nights at Schoodic Woods (Acadia National Park) Maine
~ 1 night at New River Providential Park New Brunswick Canada
~ 4 nights at Canyontown (Fundy National Park) New Brunswick
~ 2 nights at Redhouse State Park in Western NY.

Plus a few wally-docking nights in between.

Seemed like we stayed north of all the rain PA. and Ohio was getting over that time. I think we had two days of rain, but a 36 hours of the return travel days it rained the whole time from Southern Maine to western NY.

Two of my favorite campgrounds were Jigger Johnson Forest service campground and Schoodic Woods in the northern section of Acadia National Park. But every place we stayed at I would visit again.

The places we stayed:
At Charlotte Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort
At Staunton Walnut Hills Campground
At Hagerstown Hagerstown/Antietam Battlefield KOA
At Lancaster Country Acres Campground
At Bristol, Bear Creek Campground at Lake Compounce
At Salisbury Beach Rose RV Park
At Bar Harbor Hadley's Point Campground
At Burlington Vermont Lake Champagne Resort
I would recommend all of these but two: Hagerstown/Antietam Battlefield KOA and Bear Creek Campground at Lake Compounce.
