We live a little over an hour from Rock Crusher Canyon (along with about 50 other parks). It is my favorite closeby park and I am really sad to hear the news. We stayed in Feb without any noticable problems except the price was higher like $34 Good Sam rate. Very Sorry to hear of it's demise. I think will try it one more time now that we are back from out West. I will report the results.

We stay in Crystal River from Nov until Apr. I drove through Rock Crusher in late March.

I only saw 3 or 4 lot sold signs. This a a 400 lot campground and there will always be lots for rent here. Although the lots that are sold will slowly go down hill as the RVs that are placed on them age and some owners neglect maintenance. One or two with sold signs on them already had junk piled around the site.

And the beach and lake were never much more than a dump truck load of sand dumped in a frog pond. The quarry area where the pond and satellite dishes are was also known for it's rattlesnakes.

-Tom

Foreclosure of Elite R.V. resort takes campers by surprise

People camping Wednesday afternoon at Elite Resort enjoyed the balmy weather in spite of the sudden turnaround of the site’s ownership Tuesday evening.
“It’s been chaotic,” said Joe Cappuccilli with Gulf To Lakes Associates Ltd. “It’s in foreclosure.”
Ownership of the former Rock Crusher R.V. Park, which was sold two years ago to Crystal River Park Investors LLC to become the Elite Resort at Crystal River — one of five campsites in the company’s chain — likely will soon revert to the lender and previous owner, Gulf To Lakes Associates, a company owned by Black Diamond developer Stan Olsen, when the foreclosure is finalized.
“As of 5 o’clock last night, the court appointed a receiver for the property,” Cappuccilli said. “We are taking control of the property.”
The order, Cappuccilli said, was signed Monday by Circuit Court Judge Carol A. Falvey.
Cappuccilli said some of the guests at the resort had witnessed the previous management leave and the new staff members come in to take over providing services. Some guests had called the Chronicle to complain that the Wi-Fi service no longer was available and the swimming pool heater had been removed.
“We’re evaluating it now to see what items were removed from the property,” Cappuccilli said. “We went over last night and talked to folks. We have our own team there now.”
The team will work day to day through the receivership until the foreclosure is finalized.
“We want to make the transition as smooth as possible,” Cappuccilli said. “We want to make sure no utilities are cut off. We got Wi-Fi set up in the clubhouse first thing this morning.”
As the property is heavily wooded, it would take more time to get towers installed to provide Wi-Fi for the entire site.
As the campsite also has condominium ownership, Cappuccilli said his group had identified at least seven property owners who had purchased lots.
“It raises some issues there that we are beginning to evaluate,” Cappuccilli said.
Crystal River Park Investors is still the developer that is in control of the condominium association.
“When the foreclosure is finalized, we would be in control of the association,” Cappuccilli said.
The foreclosure also impacts tenants, some of whom have prepaid their fees to Crystal River Park Investors, and employees.
“We are working through some of the issues with employees and hiring some of the staff,” Cappuccilli said.
The lis pendens, a legal document that shows intent to proceed with a foreclosure on the property, was filed Dec. 28, 2009, according to Citrus County Clerk of Court records.
“We’ve been to court several times and felt the pain,” Cappuccilli said.
Ed Mayer, the president of Elite Resorts of America, was unavailable for comment when a reporter called the company’s headquarters. The company appears to still operate four other R.V. resorts in Florida.
In the Dec. 14, 2009, edition of R.V. Business, an industry journal, Mayer described how he had been seeking financing from private investment groups after failing to obtain loans from conventional lenders.
“Everybody is scrambling to find money. I’ve dealt with small banks, medium banks and large banks and I’m getting the same answer across the spectrum,” Mayer told R.V. Business.
According to the industry journal, Mayer said many lenders lacked experience dealing with the R.V. industry and therefore would not invest in spite of financial successes R.V. parks and resorts were experiencing even during the recession.
The 80-acre property is at the southeast corner of Rock Crusher Road and West Crystal Oaks Drive. It has 398 lots that range in size from 3,500 to 7,000 square feet.

I'm now in Elite Resorts, Citrus Valley and things seem to be OK here, but this is interesting.

I think I saw something, in the last couple of days, that Elite went into receivership. Not sure where I saw it.

We stayed at Elite Crystal River last month. The staff was friendly. The pool, hot tub and wifi were all geat. Great bunch of friendly campers. "Elvis" was in the house on Saturday night. Very nice breakfast served at the lodge for $4-5.

Some told us not to pay attention to the SOLD signs posted throughout. They were dummys and not so.

It was on our list to return to next year. Maybe not....... Too bad. Just a short drive to the Freezer restaurant, (no signs but you'll be rewarded if you find it!) and Monkey Island.

Will not stay at Rock Crusher Canyon

In the local paper (Citrus County Chronicle 3/11/10) it had an article that Elite property is being foreclosed on. The original owner and bank will be taking the property back. There are 7 people who bought lots from Elite and they will be able to retain their lots. wryoung

We were at Elite Resorts when this took place and let me tell you that Elite removed anything that was attached or not, for the most part but the did go around and pull all the WIFI poles out of the ground and cut the wires stopping the WIFI to all of us. They also removed all the tables, chairs, tv,and equipment from the club house and in the pool area removed one of the pool heaters and from bathouses removed the water softners. Removed all the nice plastic fences plus a lot more. We for one and many others will never go to another ELITE RESORT as they don't care one bit about the campers just money.

Man, you can't beat the freezer on the steamed shrimp . Eating shrimp at it's best. MY favorite place once a week with a cold beer. Just hope it don't get shut down anytime soon. Folks that are here to visit, the freezer is a must if you like shrimp. YAHOO........... ~Brenda
