Weather report for Fiddle heads
We are in AR and are traveling to upper Michigan area around the Grayling and east towards the Mio area. Here's what's happening. We have found and picked something called Fiddle Head ferns. My DW is from Maine and they are plentiful up there, great to eat and they are in the area around the Ausable river. Here's our problem. They are seasonal and will last about 2 weeks. They are usually growing about the second, third or fourth week of May depending on the weather. We had an awful hard winter everywhere with a lot of snow and we're thinking it's going to be a week or two later but just don't know. It's difficult to determine exactly when it will be good for picking.
Is anybody around the area to give us some idea of what's happening in the woods???? The fiddle heads will usually come up about the same time as the when the Trillium's start to bloom.
It's a long way to travel to get there a week late. We can leave just about any time in the next weeks but don't want to get there to early and of course not to late either.
We'd appreciate a heads up from somebody in the area. Anywhere along those lines even as far as Traverse City to Alpena would help. An e-mail or a PM and I can give you a call.
Thanks a bunch,
