We're off to Alaska

We're on day 2 of our Alaskan adventure. Central Indiana (I 74) to central Illinois (I 39) to Madison, WI to join I90/94 west. West on I 94 to Eau Claire, St. Paul, St. Cloud, Fargo. 975 miles in 2 days (we've seen this area before and want to get to Yellowstone and Glacier).

Follow our blog at http://indianatoalaska2013@blogspot.com . It's boring right now but just wait for the pictures of our cruise and our land trip to all of Alaska.

We are beside ourselves with excitement. Can this really match our expectations?

Posts will be spotty since internet assess is spotty. Keep an eye out for us.

Have a fun trip! Used to live there for a couple decades...everyone should visit Alaska at least once!

Currently in Quesnel BC. Expect to be in Alaska proper by about 6/15.
Enjoy the drive. The trip is as much a part of the experience as the destination.

Be sure to play, North To Alaska by Johnny Horton on the way up. Just to get you in the mood. I have always loved that song.

Have fun. Be sure to check out the following en route

Liard River Hot Springs, very cool for something so hot!
Braeburne Lodge if you are heading up to Dawson City from Watson Lake. Especially if you like cinnamon buns (hint, you only need one).

We'll be flying up to Fairbanks in Aug. to visit family. Hope to make a RV trip up there the summer of 16', the year I retire...This will be our 5th trip to visit family in North Pole AK. Make sure to visit the visitor center in Fairbanks. Also take a few days to explore Denali NP.

Some pics from Denali from 08'

Also in Fairbanks. The Riverboat Discovery paddle boat tour in Fairbanks is a "must do". A little $$$$ but very informative.

*** If anyone knows of any discounts for the Riverboat Discovery tours, please pass that along...

2/1 Discounts on the major attractions can be had by purchasing the Tour Saver coupon book online before making the trip. It will pay for itself with just one glacier cruise - which is a must!

Do you know of one that covers "just" the Fairbanks / North Pole area?

We will be in that area visiting family for only 2 weeks in Aug.

FYI we traveled to Alaska in 2012 starting in March and home to NY in September. Our travels included the Alaskan Highway up and the Inter coastal waterway on a ferry down. You can see our trip on our blog. RVGR8escape: March 2012 . (See the month of June to start Alaska).
Four month, 14K miles, a trip of a life time. Safe travels and remember THE JOY IS IN THE RIDE.
