West Texas overnight
Plans are to be West bound on Christmas day via I-10. We'll be looking for an inexpensive place to park for an overnight. Power would be great but not necessary. Just looking for a quiet spot for a 40' motorhome for a night. Anyone know of a spot somewhere around where I-10 and I-20 meet? Thanks

The Plateau Truck Stop at exit 159 always has plenty of room at the west end of the parking lot. Trains track are pretty close but then again the tracks are close to everything on 10 out there.

Lived next to the train tracks for 26 years. Don't recall ever hearing one, nor being woke up in the night.
However, I do recall waking up at 2:33 AM one night and wondering what's wrong?
Listened real hard, and realized no train going "clickety clack"
Trains were music to my ears growing up. Dad would take me to work sometimes and the switch engineer would let me ride with him all night long. Kids love trains and being on the engine, heaven....

We stay at the Flying J at Pecos (I10 Exit 42)eat/dump/refuel. We get off at Ft Stockton on I10 and run US285 to Pecos (cross over the interstate and turn Left on the frontage road... RV parking on front near the hotel). This was the route we took to NM from Corpus (we go up to Roswell truck relief route... spend the night at Sam's Club, that one has diesel and we can get the 40 ft bus towing the Jeep into it with no problem) before heading over to I25 on US 380. We have spent the night at Pecos Flying J twice. Both times fairly quiet. Spent the night at Roswell Sam's Club 4 times. Also quiet.

Thanks Lorna. The #42 exit may just be far enough West for us.

Many RV'ers have found Free Campgrounds for RVs quite useful when traveling.

We're headin west out of San Antonio Christmas day too(Colorado ski trip). We usually stay at the inexpensive Circle Bar RV(325-392-2661) Park 5 m east of Ozona(exit#368). It has 50 amp, cable, wifi, plus a restaurant(till 11pm), motel, and truck stop(24hr). Christmas is just another business day. There is also a little car museum there. An oil man created this little oasis out in the middle of nowhere. Park at a site, then walk across the street to the motel to pay. There are about 95 pull thrus. There are curbed islands at each site that make it a little tight with our 42' Signature + FJ Cruiser toad.

Thanks Lonestar but I'm hoping to find something West of the 20/10 "split". The spot Lorna mentions at exit 120 may have to do unless I can find something on 10 right near the 10/20 split

west of split, exit # 138, Van Horn, TX Eagles Nest RV Park www.vheaglesnest.com/
There's the Balmorhea S.P. just east of the split. Believe it or not, it's a scuba divin hot spot in the winter because the clear springs flow constant temp yr round.

Another option would be Van Horn TX KOA, exit 140A, easy off & on, reasonable rates, pull thrus, cafe on site, 50A service.

I try to make 2 or 3 trips a year out to NM or AZ. We really like the area around Florence Junction, Farmington and Las Cruces. We might do Moab again this year but not during a big event. We mostly run extreme stuff. How about you??
