West Yellowstone and Yellowstone NP area fires

We're supposed to be at West Yellowstone in a few weeks and have been observing that fires in the area are threatening. While our visit is a few weeks off and there are many variable factors, we want to be alert for and on top of the situation.

Language on fire and Yellowstone web sites are both comforting and also worrisome. On one hand they speak of holding the fire at the Madison River, on the other they speak of how they are planning to protect West Yellowstone?

Has anyone in the area got any fresh news on conditions in that area?

Any reports on real time conditions and threats would be appreciated.

Thanks

As of this morning the South Entrance OF-GT is closed. Everything else is open. P West Yellowstone is not considered threatened at this time unless wind changes. Not much wind currently. Subfreezing temps this morning.

There are presently numerous fires in and around Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. A lot can change in two weeks so all you can do is to keep monitoring and this site is good. The Berry Fire is a concern right now in the Tetons. Zoom out on this map and you can see the fire symbols, then click on each symbol to read about them. If you have breathing issues a fire area is not a good place to be. The smoke will really affect you. You can enter any state for its information.

Good info and much appreciated. We don't have the south entrance or Tetons on the itinerary this trip so won't be in that area. Did it last year. We'll be more east , west, and north on this visit to Yellowstone- fires permitting. I see there is a big meeting in West Yellowstone this evening about the fire.

If I may interject on an old Thread! I was in Yellowstone three weeks ago around June 12th. and I wish to give a tip that we discovered for any who might be visiting soon. Actually two tips. First if you don't already have one, get the America the Beautiful senior pass. They are available at any national park or monument that has an office. But above that, it gets light in Yellow stone very early. Like four AM. I guess due to the elevation. Start your day at early light. You will have the place almost to your self until at least 9:30 AM, We spent five days and loved it. We left the park before three and went to other explorations, Like Cody Wyoming. Buffalo Bill Dam and then back to our camper which was at beautiful Buffalo Bill state park on Rt 14 west of Cody
