I think you need to be retired military, DOD Civilian, some percentage VA disabled and there may be some other criteria I am not aware of for the most part. I am a DOD retired civilian and can access the parks.

I have read where some installations allow usage regardless of status with DOD.

Hope this helps.

Probably not if you don't have an ID card but it varies some by each location. Need to check the military travel guide. If you know someone at the base they can probably sponsor you into the Fam Camp.

At most military CGs you must be active duty, retired military or a current DOD employee. Only way to know for sure is to call ahead.

My understanding is it is up to the local commander to set the policy. That being said, most limit usage to active duty, retired, 100% disabled. Some allow DOD personnel and as mentioned some are open to the public. Since it is individual by CG, I would call ahead and ask if your circumstances meet their criteria.

Thanks all. I did not retire from Military so I don't think I can go to any. Too bad as I understand they are nice, especially the one near me at Mayport, Fl

Although I am retired military and have access to military facilities as part of my retirement compensation, I have often questioned the fairness of limiting this benefit. Thankfully, our most severely disabled vets are acknowledged for their sacrifices, and awarded many of the benefits I enjoy as a retiree. Not to upset anyone who did or didn't serve but I feel an "underserved" segment of the veteran community is the combat vet. Whether they eventually retired or not, they experienced, and now live with memories, the rest of us can only begin to imagine. Having said all this, most on/off base morale and welfare facilities are supported by "non-appropriated" sources [no tax money]. Accordingly, the facilities at many locations are not always well maintained, yet often charge rates similar to civilian campgrounds. Appreciate the opportunity to "vent!" Again, I want to thank all veterans for their service to our country.
