What's the best way to find the nice places to stay?

We just returned home from our first extended (3 weeks) trip and while we really enjoyed all of our destinations, we discovered to our dismay, that the "park" in RV park is more often a verb, than a noun. We stayed in 5 different RV "parks/resorts" and one campground. Of the RV parks 2 were horrible with no hospitable outdoor area to put out a chair and enjoy the outdoors, 1 could have been nice with a little care, but maintenance was a real problem, and only 2 provided an outdoor area to compliment the indoor space we brought with us. The campground was nicer than all but one of the parks.

How do you find the nicest places?

Before I go anywhere I always check http://www.rvparkreviews.com/. Best resource I've found for reviews. We also tend to stay mostly in public parks since we enjoy green and space. So the majority of our time we're at state parks, national forest, COE, BLM etc. we find the public parks are usually very nice.

Like Nina, we rely heavily on rvparkreviews.com

Don't depend too much on the numerical ratings people assign in their reviews but rather look for details in their write-ups.

Once we find a place located where we want to be, we will often times use Google Earth to look at a bird's eye view of the park and surrounding area.

Best of luck

Rick

Park reviews plus the campground reviews on this site helps a lot. Additionally, we talk to other RVers.

Another vote for RVParkReviews; we pretty much will not stay at a CG unless it gets a ~7 or better. Sure, some people get all bent out of shape if the wifi doesn't work well and that's their right, but if you read the entire review and not just the numeric rating you will get a good sense of whether or not you will be comfortable there.

Thanks, Google earth is a great idea to add to park reviews. We looked at the reviews on most of our places, they helped pick some places but others not so much.

Yep, it really points out how different folks have different needs and expectations. Often times we'll find a CG has gotten several bad ratings because of something with the restrooms or showers. I haven't even seen the inside of a CG restroom/shower in so long I don't remember... and we bring our own internet connectivity.
