Once they have a feeling for who's asking the 10 year rule is rarely even mentioned.

I have a 18 year old coach, and at one time I owned/flew a "cousin Eddie" ERCO Ercoupe.
I was never "turned away" from an airport when I wanted to land that 20+ year old plane.
