I want to take a trip to Florida to try to find warmer weather over the Christmas break. It would be me, the wife, our 12yr old son and 10yr old daughter. I know Disney will be incredibly overcrowded at that time. My wife would like to be by an ocean or the gulf so she can soak up some radiation. Any ideas where we could go and what we could do?

Hello neighbor, we'll be going down after Christmas, I would recommend going near the Space Coast area. As a matter of fact there is a nice CG in Cocoa called Space Coast. With 2 children there is a lot to do in the area. and you dont feel the impact of Disney. Check out the Nor'Easters region on this site, it's a great group of people..

If you go to Cocoa, it's an easy 1 hour drive to Disney. Also Kennedy Space Center is near by.

One of the biggest 'problems' is finding a campground with sites available this time of year. Make sure that you get confirmed reservations ... That being said the East Coast area is great as is the Gulf Coast. If you cannot find sites along the coast try Elite Resorts in Salt Springs or KOA in Starke

Thanks, I just made reservations at Space Coast Campground. Now I just need to pray for warm weather.

Just got back from FLA, having stayed in Space Coast Campground. While it was a nice, very clean campground, I probably would not go back again with children. There is not much for kids to do there. In fact, I barely saw any kids at all while we were there. It is the quietest campground I have ever stayed at. Many campers actually live there year-round. The heated pool was very nice and is open 24 hours.
The website says cable is available, but that is only if you are staying for months since the cable company actually has to be called ot turn the cable on at your site.

Sounds like that is not a "campground", but an RV "community". Lots of RV parks have RVs and park models that remain there all year... even if the owners go back to their homes. This is particularly true in snowbird areas like FL and AZ.
Too bad the RV directories don't always mention how may seasonals they have.
