So my guess of western North America was spot on . But is it is west of Yellowstone or Yosemite? I've not been to either, but I would guess Yosemite.

Correct. When we were there in August, the salmon were running but the bears had been coming early in the morning and late in the evening so we missed seeing them. We did see numerous bears on the side of 37A going to/from Hyder. But here's a picture from 2005.

The waterfall pic was Kakabeka Falls in Ontario, Canada about 20 mi west of Thunder Bay. There is a provincial campground near the falls. We stayed in Happy Land Campground about a mile away. It's a pretty drive along the Trans Canada highway in the summer.
