We are trying to visit all the New England states this summer and looking to be in Vermont in mid August. We haven't chosen any particular place or RV park to visit yet. Any suggestions on where we should go - where we should stay (with room for our 41' motorhome) and what we should see?
Thanks.

Do not remember the parks but I do remember the area. Go to Burlington Vermont (college town) and take the ferry across Lake Champlain (not terribly expensive, around $40.00 one way for MH and car) and go to Lake Placid and tour the Adirondacks.
Great trip, especially in the fall with the color change.

In mid-August the North East Area of FMCA is having their rally in Essex Jct. which is next to Burlington, so figure on campgrounds full around that time because of early arrivals. Most of the tourist areas are ok for crowds except for the Burlington waterfront which is always crowded, but a great place to go.

We usually take a week or two trip to Vermont every 3-4 years. We usually stay at the state parks of Vermont, but with a 40' rig there are very few sites for that size rig. We also hit one of the private campgrounds called Lake Dunmore Kamperville about 30 minutes north of Rutland VT. We have stayed here about 5 times (about 25 nights). It is one of the largest in VT. They have many good sized sites, two pools, bingo every night, across the street is Lake Dunmore. Lake Dunmore is a busy park. At this point it may be hard to get a weekend site. Here are a few pixs.... Kamperville 07' VT 03' Gifford Woods SP VT. 07' near Rutland

Another place to try is the Gold Brook Camp ground on Rt 100 just south of
Stowe. The campground is well kept and the people are nice for $38 a night. The real draw is its location. The area is just beautifull. Stowe is very scenic even in the summer and you can go to the ski area to see if the gondola rides are running. Along Rt 100 is the ben and jerry's Ice Cream factory open for tours and the Cabot Cheese outlet if your cholersterol levels can take it. Stowe is very pretty with no commercial signs or bill boards to obstruct any view. No lights at night make star gazing great. It is also very cool. The sites are wide and big with a well kept lawn not just grass.

Thanks for all the feedback. Looks like we will be staying at Apple Island Resort near Burlington. It was the Ben and Jerry's factory that got me looking in that area. :-)

Apple Island Resort is quite far (in VT terms) from Ben & Jerry's factory in Waterbury.

Might be a bit far for Vermont, but we're from Alaska. 45 miles seems like practically next door to us.
