Enjoy, Coming into Maryland yesterday I saw on beltway sign about road closures and traffic May 29. try radio station 103.5 WTOP for traffic. Always the Metro (subway) system to get into DC.

I am leaving town for Pocomoke River State Park/Forest on eastern shore of Maryland. Our frst multi night trip with our trailer. I think it is mostly ready. In years past we usually have car camped in Green Ridge State Forest or backpacked in the GW or Monongahela National Forest.

We don't travel much during summer ... too much traffic, parks are too crowded. What little summer traveling we do usually involves mooch-docking at friends' places - or midweek traveling to the "less popular" areas of the state. I'd rather go for a root canal than make a trip to the "popular" destinations during the summer. Our travel season starts the day after Labor Day - and runs basically runs through Memorial day. I equate summer camping as two months of "sweating and swatting surrounded by everybody else's screaming kids." Once we got a taste of camping in the "off season" - we swore we'd avoid the summer crowds.

Thanks for the tips Losthikers. We've taken the Metro into DC twice now. The first time we were a bit nervous. No subways where we live. The second time, it became more familiar...and more comfortable. It really is a great way to get around.

I will give a listen to the radio station for closed roads. We are sitting still through the entire holiday.

Hope that you have a great time at Pokomoke River State Park/Forest.

I'll be camping in my own yard. Got the best spot, all hooked up and the beer is chilled.

YES, YES, YES,
You nailed it, that's exactly what we do !
BUT For the first time, we "camped" with some friends on Memorial Day weekend !!
It was like a Syrian Refuge Camp. Wall to wall people. mostly out of their mind on FIREBALL ! Lesson learned.
