this website has a lot of info

SWCC > ICS-209 Fires

And it clearly shows on this map a wildfire just south as such:

Cedar
Bureau of Indian Affairs
Fort Apache Agency
Incident Number: AZ-FTA-000403
Located: 18 miles northwest of Whiteriver
Started: Jun 15, 2016 1:42:00 PM
Size: 9652 acres
Strategy: Full Suppression - (100%)
Containment/Completion: 30%
Cause: Unknown
Fuel Type: Timber (Litter and Understory) "Mostly terrain driven with the interior continuing to burnout. Significant columns occurred in the late afternoon in the Long Tom Canyon along the southern flank."
Incident Commander: John Pierson - Type 1 Team
This information is from an Update ICS-209 reported on: Jun 17, 2016 8:42:19 PM

that's a pretty big fire...... I might be requesting a refund and head someplace else, but I'm also a very cautious person....

BUT i bet by the 27th, it'll either be more out of control, or contained...

Wildfire near Venture-In RV Resort Show Low, AZ

Looking for first hand reports on fire and impact on Venture-In RV Resort in Show Low, AZ. We have reservations made & are due to arrive there on the 27th for a one month stay. Should we cancel or keep on trucking?

Why not cancel and NOT become part of the problem at this time?

Speaking as a firefighter, you are not part of the problem. All areas of concern will be closed to everyone except emergency vehicles. If the RV park is open (and it should be as the fire is moving to the SE) you will help support the local economy when they need it the most. Be prepared to evacuate at any time and if you don't like the smell of smoke you might want to "keep on trucking". I would call the RV park and make the decision that works best for you.

We are near VentureIn right now. It is not affected in any way and probably won't be. The fire is about 8 miles east of the park heading toward Pinetop. It's moving NE not west toward the park. It started east of Hwy 60. Definitely keep your reservation. It's a lot cooler up here than in most other areas of Arizona.

I certainly wouldn't be concerned at this early date. By the 27th all will be clear, hopefully.

The three connecting towns, Show Low, Lakeside, Pinetop announced yesterday that visitors are certainly welcome. The businesses are hurting this fine summer weekend. Many folks from Tucson and Phoenix areas come up to get cool and many have summer homes. Phoenix will be around 118/120 on Monday so I'm sure some will be heading up here.

The area is on standby for evacuation but the latest report today is that it's 30% contained and has not reached the outside perimeter 'trigger points'. Fire break areas have been cleared. If it does go beyond the trigger points, there will be an evacuation but it doesn't look likely right now. They've brought in a new fire crew - the top guys, who are doing a fantastic job as did the previous crew. The DC10 cargo planes have been dropping retardant. The whole area is so grateful for these endless workers in heat and very rough terrain. There have been two immense fires in the past east and west of this present fire. The locals were very apprehensive on Wed. afternoon when it began and on Thurs. but are a lot calmer now. It's up to 10,000 acres in 3 days!

The area will still look the same to visitors because the fire is right now deep in the forest and canyons. All popular activities will not be affected.

Thank you very much! I have been watching fire and wind direction maps. Feeling much better about going there. Will keep my eyes on the fire and make decision Friday evening. Thanks again.

Also consider the smoke.

If you go to Weather Underground Show Low and click on FIRE on the right hand column you can get an idea of the smoke.

THANKS. Now I can keep an eye on fire, wind and smoke just for Show Low. Interesting that last wind map shows wind from north but smoke moving NE. Thanks again.

The winds aloft will help explain some of the smoke movement. This link is for the nearest reporting station:

You are being redirected...

I see that "you are being redirected" looks suspicious but it's for www.usairnet.com
If you right click on "you are being redirected" and then click on "inspect" you'll see it's a safe site.

We just got back from shopping at Safeway. There is absolutely no smoke at Venture In. You have to drive approx. 10 miles east and that's the direction of the fire.

It all seems normal in Show Low - people casually shopping, no anxiety or talk of the fire. They have 'Show Low' in the news but that's not where the action is. It's east of Show Low at Lakeside and Pinetop.
