Wilmington, De

I need to go to Wilmington, De. the beginning of July. Anyone have a suggestion as to a decent campground near there, that allows pets. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Howdy!

Nothing I know of. There is a small motel that has a rundown RV park in the back of it. When we visit last we boondocked at the Casino/Race tract parking lot.

Do not go to the rundown motel/RV park, Delaware Auto Court mentioned above. The last member that was there was awakened by gunfire at night and the motel rents rooms by the hour.

Unfortunately there are no campgrounds near Wilmington.

Lums Pond State Park is about 10 miles away and has a campground with no hookups, and it's pricey.

There are some nice campgrounds near Strasburg PA and vicinity.

I'll be down there later this week and had planned on the KOA in Coatsville, PA. Seemed like the only reasonable choice. Roughly 20 miles or so to town, easier if you need to be on the north side - Greenville/Centerville area. I am fortunate as I have an opportunity to dry camp at a private facility. Good luck and let us know where you end up.

We are currently staying at the West Chester KOA. Been here a number of times. Nice place, but a little pricey. Probably because it is the only game in town. Gets busy on weekends but during the week pretty quiet. Need reservations if looking for full fhu for long stay. Friendly people and multiple ways to get into Wilmington by using back roads. I stay off 202 during rush hrs. good luck

How far would Elk Neck State Park in Maryland be from Wilmington ?

They have a loop that allows pets. Problem is they night be all booked up.

Thanks for the responses - I guess I will be staying in West Chester KOA since it is the closest to where I need to go.
