Winslow, Flagstaff & Sedona Recommendations

We will be passing through Winslow, Flagstaff & Sedona in the later part of October. Any CG recommendations?

Meteor Crater RV is pretty good in Winslow. Real good for overnight, but not a lot to do after seeing the Crater.

Dead Horse Ranch (State Park) in Cottonwood AZ ... about 30 minutes to Sedona ... 30 minutes to Jerome.

Let us know if you see the girl in the flat bed Ford while you are in Winslow, you may have to stand on the corner to see her.

Sorry couldn't help it.

Be sure to check out the historic route 66 roads at various points along route 40 from Winslow to the California State line. X2 on Deadhorse State Park and Meteor. Flagstaff can be difficult for Big Rigs. We stay at Black Barts for overnighters, nice Steakhouse, RV park not so much. Woody Mountain in Flag is nice, but 30amp I think. Consider Williams, several KOA's and private parks, most good for bigger rigs. We were at the Grand Canyon a week ago, consider that if you have time, the Trailer Village was great. In Sedona, we used to go to Rancho Sedona RV Resort. Its the best, but can be tight. Slide Rock State Park is nice and nearby. An alternative is Distant Drums RV park in Camp Verde, not too far from Sedona, but much better for larger RV's. The Also there are several National Monuments and around Camp Verde/Deadhorse Ranch near Cottonwood, Montezuma Castle, Tuzigoot, Montezuma Well. The Verde Valley Railroad is a very nice short round trip and vice scenery. Petrified Forest Nat Park is a nice drive near Holbrook (east of Winslow). October is some of the best weather, enjoy it. Still hot here in Phoenix.

Rancho Sedona RV Park is by far the nicest FH park in or near Sedona. It can be sold out in good months so reserve now if you want it. It has some sites that aren't tight at all, but booking them in October may be impossible now. Our 38 fit in the tighter area fine and had room to spare. We live in Sedona so if you are interested in Sedona specifics feel free to PM me.

x2 on Rancho Sedona.

Two weeks ago, I tried to book 5 nights there for late Sept./early Oct. Because my rig is 33', I was told there were no spaces available until after Christmas for a stay that long. They have limited big rig spaces. If you are only staying one night, possibly two, then you may have a shot at a space.

It's worth a call.

We've always stayed in nearby Cottonwood at Dead Horse Ranch State Park - big sites and easy drive into VERY BUSY Sedona. We've gone for the last time, unfortunately, because of the crowds.

Yes, tourist traffic is a real issue in Sedona; so much so that it was the major topic in our just completed election. But it is predictable, on holiday weekends and all weekends in the shoulder seasons. Traffic is quite manageable in winter, in summer especially on weekdays and on weekdays in shoulder seasons (other than holiday weeks). So don't give up on Sedona, just pick your dates wisely.

X2. The RV park is right off the interstate. The RV park is pretty nice with lava gravel roads and a few small trees. It is well maintained.

If you plan to visit the Crater, see the campground staff for Crater visit discounts. Refueling is also handy at the campground store.

Thanks folks!

At Winslow we have reservations for Meteor Crater RV park. We will be there 3 nights so one day will be for the big hole in the ground and another day for the Homolovi Ruins State Park. Of course I will have to find the "Flat Bed Ford" but If Sandee catches me looking at the girl in it...

We will still need to make a final decision on the next stop. Due to time constraints I might try to find a place between Flagstaff and Sedona. We might take a slightly different approach and go over to Williams and take the train up the GCNP. Thank you Ron for the suggestion.

I'm about to give Rancho Sedona a call. From looking at satellite photos the biggest concern I have is satellite view. Gotta keep Sandee happy!

Again...thanks all!

I’ve never camped in Winslow - but - every trip through Winslow I stop at the Maverik station for diesel (lowest prices) plus they have a free dump station.
