If you like the Tucson area, don't need a clubhouse and pickleball, don't want to be in the middle of nowhere but still want a beautiful, quiet setting with great hiking and biking you can't do better than Arizona State Parks: Catalina: Home You'll only be able to stay for 14 days but there are lots of other places in and around town

Warning!

The largest gem, mineral, and fossil show in the world occurs between the end of January thru February in the entire town of Tucson! We plan our RV reservations a year ahead of time. You can occasionally find campgrounds in the area during the show, but they can be really hard to find, and probably not for more than a couple of days here and there. Voyager RV Park just east of Tucson has all the bells and whistles. There are several smaller, less expensive campgrounds east of Tucson, too. We stayed in Marana north of Tucson once, but found the campground to be very tight. The show is amazing, to see it all takes more time than the show runs for, so plan accordingly. Good Luck!

If you're looking for a quiet place with brilliant night skies you might also consider Amado RV south of Tucson in Amado. It has an indoor pool, restaurant, music on weekends, clubhouse.

Tucson in December

Thanks for all the suggestions. Narrowed my choice to the Tucson area for the month of December.

Still have not picked a place, so please give me experiences and recommendations.

Thanks

Voyager RV Resort is like a small city, check out the link below. It is just south of I-10 and Kolb road, east of Tucson by about 5 miles or so. The rates for December are about $690 for a month, plus electricity. You can find less expensive campgrounds, but this is the only place we have stayed recently. It is a gated community, and there are newer grocery stores north of I-10 within 10-15 minutes. Comes with all the bells and whistles, they have day trips if you like those. My wife likes the silversmith shop access, I like the fact we can pick a spot in the "Pet Friendly" section and stay away from the animal haters. Good Luck!

I vote for Voyager Resort. 3rd winter here LOTS to do! Has its own hotel, cabins, cafe, hair salon, small store, golf course, mail center, health clinic, physical therapy, pet groomer PLUS activities

Looking at Phoenix area in March 2014? Any suggestions for campgrounds?

We prefer the more non commercial but with good power and water. Probably only for 2 week stay so we won't be able to take advantage of the monthly rates. Looking at north of Phoenix area, definitely plan to visit Sedona area and go to the Brewers spring training in Maryvale park, westside of Phoenix.

If you're looking in north Phoenix, do consider the Maricopa County Parks campgrounds. They have water and electric and dump stations. Very clean bathhouses, huge sites in lush Sonoran desert terrain. There is a 2-week limit. Our favorites are Cave Creek, Usery, McDowell Mountain and Lake Pleasant. Also consider Lost Dutchman State Park in Apache Junction east Phoenix metro. You won't find finer views and beautiful sites. They have dry camping spots and full hookups.
