Winter RV locations in Florida

After wintering in RioGrande Valley,Texas in 2011 and Yuma AZ area in 2012 we are thinking about Flordia for 2013. We would like to be somewhere mid state closer to the Gulf side. Any suggestions on rv parks and what the weather is like in January and Feburary around the Fort Meyers, Sarasota, Naples area.

Weather in Ft, Myers just a ltttle wamer than the Rio Grande Valley. No wind.
Prices are much more. The further south you go and the closer you are to the coast the higher the prices.

I stayed at Pine Island KOA last year for 2 weeks. The Island is nice and the price is reasonable. Its about 20 minutes to Ft Meyers and 1 hour to Naples

When we are looking for somewhere to park for a month or more, I get a map of the area we are thinking of and open RV Park Reviews :: Florida and start looking for what seems to be the best fit.

Florida

I suggest you move sort of quickly, the months of January and February can be very busy in Florida and a majority of Campground's can be booked for those months. That is the good ones are. Alot of Florida campgrounds can be old with tight spaces not like you find out west.
We have stayed Feb and March on the East Coast and April on the West coast and love the weather. You can get cold snaps but they might last 2-3 days and warm up during the day.
Good luck in your hunt. I Highly recommend using the following website.

Not sure what type of unit you have, but there are several nice motorcoach resorts around the the Naples, FL area.

The farther south you go in Florida, the higher the prices and the nicer parks are quite pricey.

I live on Pine Island and the KOA is ok but pretty pricey. My favorite park in the area is:

Riverside RV Resort, located on the Peace River, just outside Port Charlotte on the King's Highway. They have a very active bike club, kayaking club (they will teach you if you don't know how), several exercise groups, including water aerobics, activities 7 days/week. Close to Port Charlotte/Punta Gorda with good fishing, golfing and dinning.

Check this site Allstays | Campgrounds | RV Parks It will give you several ideas. We have stayed mostly around the Orlando area (son lives nearby). The further South and coastal areas are more expensive and may already be full. Have stayed at Clerbrook Golf & RV Resort (Clermont) for 4 winters. Large place, look at its website. Usually has sites available in Jan, Feb, Mar. New Smyrna Beach has two sites. Lots of possibilities, just depends on what you want. Naples area will be expensive as will other places on the water.

Sun & Fun

We stay for the month of April in Sun & Fun in Sarasota, we love Lido Beach and the Sarasota area, but S&F is too pricey for the months of JFM, but if you are going to be in the area for 4 months you might be able to work a deal.
They have a very highly rately resort, with ton's going on so you might want to check it out. It's Sun N Fun Rv Resort, Fruitville Rd, Sarasota, Florida.

we fell in love with River Ranch RV Resort. the entrance is a dude ranch- where if you are interested you can take part in their activities. They have trail rides (horses) swamp buggy rides, airboat rides with a great guy- Ben- who owns the boats- will show you gators, cattle grazing in the swamps, native birds etc- fun stuff- - there is also a restaurant, small country store and a rodeo ( buckle series bullriding, trick riders and roping) every saturday night.- All of this is available if you want- otherwise, the gorgeous RV Resort is private, offers 3 gorgeous swimming pools, club houses, laundry / shower house facility and a terrific bunch of folks to share 5 oclock with or just swing on your swing under a mighty relaxing oak tree. Golf carts are plentiful as well- renting is usually not a problem. Highway 60- located between Lake Wales and Vero Beach- 1 hour 15 minutes to Orlando/ airport- 25 minutes to lake wales- walmart, lowes, fresh veggies all year round. 40 minutes to Vero Beach for fun shopping restaurants, anything you may need in reality! i have photos of lots their if your interested. the longer you stay the better the price- post reply if interested.

Naples area...Been to Neapolitan Cove RV Resort the last 2 yrs. and it is a good choice and price is right for what you get. In town, but close to downtown, shopping, etc. It is on hiway, so some noise but you get used to it. Will take all newer RV's, but lots of MH's. Small and great group of people here and very convient to what ever you want.

If you want MH only, go to Pelican lake, nice and exclusive. Silver Lake is good too, but don't know too much about it, lots of perminent mobh's there. Naples MotorHome Resort (Signature) is OK too.
Not sure what you travel with or looking for.
