Wintering in FL Question
We just went FT and want to winter in FL. Our plan is to see fall colors in Maine, head south, spend Thanksgiving with our son in NC, then head to FL. If you winter in FL where do you recommend and why. What does it cost monthly and how far in advance should I book it. Anything else I might need to know would be appreciated. Thanks ahead

I've heard that the further south in FL that you go the more money it costs. The guy parked next to us says he goes to the panhandle and pays $435 a month. But if you go south it gets up to as much as $100 a day.

Quick question, do you want to be by water? If so, lake, river or ocean?

Don't need to be by water. Out in the country is more our style.

It is true that the further south , and the closer to the coasts you go,the higher the site costs.
North, central Florida, sites can be had at $300.00 per month.
Florida Keys will go around $2500.00 per month.
Pick the amount you are willing to pay and then research the area that fits.

Look up Traveller's Rest Resort. It's just outside of Dade City, Fl. We've been going there for about 5 years for the winters. Beautiful park, out in the country..golf course, post office, fire hall/first responders, live entertainment every Sunday night....
a lot of amenities all listed on the web site. Fully serviced, about $800 per month, annually roughly $3000.

Give Rock Crusher Canyon RV Park in Crystal River a look. State park like atmosphere with all the amenities, friendly folks, in a laid back area of the state.

x2 for Rock Crusher...very wooded area, beautiful pool and club/bath house. Also, Topsail State Park in the Panhandle...FL has some great State Parks. Also Anastasia St Pk in St Augustine. We live in the area of Melbourne, Fl and they have a great county park, Wickham Park, that we do hear people speak a lot about.
If you really want to rough it, try LongPoint Park outside of Sebastian Inlet. Also, Hanna Park (I've never stayed there) in Jacksonville.
Try RV park reviews to get a feel for the areas you'd like to visit.
Safe travels...and welcome to the Sunshine State

How about in the country and by the water? Sunset King Lake Resort is in Defuniak Springs Florida right off I-10. Very nice, very affordable, rural setting right on the lake. Friendly fellow RVers, activities etc. $475/mo. Plus you are only about 40-50 miles north of hands down the most beautiful beaches in the state. Everything is much more affordable in this part of Florida than anywhere else. By here I mean between Pensacola and Panama City. I live in Destin which should be on your list of places to visit. Wintering in Destin however would not be affordable. It's a tourist town. Actually I don't know what you would consider affordable so I shouldn't say Destin isn't affordable. Prices in Destin are higher than any of the surrounding towns/areas.

We winter in Zephyrhills which is South of Dade City. Our park is Emerald Pointe RV Resort. It's an owner owned park so you rent directly from the lot owner. Check out their site Emerald Pointe RV and view the "Lots for Rent" section. Owners charge different amounts depending on what you get. I should mention that most owners want a minimum 4 month stay. Beautiful park check it out. Good Luck.

You didnt mention weather....Northern Florida will get some pretty cold days....30's.....mid Florida from Orlando South cool also but generally nice...West Palm Beach South is perfect weather....agree about prices higher in the South but if you check and reserve in advance you can get some great prices...i. e. Markem Park, Ft. Lauderdale...great spot...use the internet and start planning...early bird gets the worm....

Jetty Park is a county park in Port Canaveral. It's just south of the Space Center and right on the ships canal.

I think you need to strike a balance between how cold you're willing to stay in vs. what it's going to cost you to stay there. That will locate you on a north to south line. Also thinking if you like "out in the country" you'll prefer the Gulf side.
Panhandle can get pretty chilly, and stay that way all day. Get south of Ocala, and it may cool off at night, but rarely will it not get into the 60's (at least) during the day.
Dunnellon, Crystal River, Homossasa, Inverness, Brooksville. Pretty neat areas, not too crowded. Are considered "north central". Might see frost first thing in the morning a few times, but it's gone by 9-10:00 - as soon as the sun hits it.
