Wow - July 4th fireworks here!

We are at our campground in Birch Bay, Wa. for 9 days. Went to see the fireworks last night and it was CRAZY! What a show!

For those that don't know Birch Bay, it is very close to the Canada/US border and is on the west coast of Wa. State. It's a very popular place in the summer time for both Canadians and Americans. LOTS of summer residences here. Our campground has mostly Canadians in it at any time and the bay is walking distance from the cg. The bay is a big circle starting with a state park at one end and accessible beach all around with waterfront road going perhaps a mile or two all around. Very pretty setting.

The fireworks last night were incredible!! All just individuals setting things off. Must have been many tens of thousands of $$ going up in the air. Pretty neat to see and hear that. Have never been to a July 4th celebration before and I now understand the saying "lit up like the 4th of July"!!

However, I don't think I have seen so many people crowded together before. All ages from little babies up to the elderly generation. But, there was the obvious proliferation of drunk people (mostly young, including teens with drinks in hand) and those that probably consumed more than just alcohol. This part was insanity. People would walk right out in front of you while driving without looking, or even intentionally to offend you. People parking half on the road. They even had armed military there. This part was the insane part. I love crowds like this but when people act like idiots, that just ruins a lot of the otherwise fun. Probably like this everywhere, and maybe worse?

Hope ya'll had a great celebration everywhere! We'll be back next year to take it in again. Will walk down next time and go to the quieter end of the bay tho.

Did you see the refinery just south of B. Bay? I worked there for 27 years. In off season we would go out to lunch in Birch Bay. In season we avoided the place like the plague. Too bad they didn't do an emergency depressuring and really light off the flares. Since bp bought the place they have been known to send pollutants as far as White Rock. Hope you were upwind.
