Yellowstone and points northwest

Contemplating a trip from Chicago to Seattle and back last week of September and return in mid to late October. I am a bit concerned about weather through the mountains and Yellowstone in particular. Plus, my wife will be flying home from Seattle and I will be driving the rig home by myself.
Has anyone done this trip through the north mountain west in mid fall and what are the chances of snowy weather impacting a trip? I know it can snow significantly in October in the mountains but wonder if it's really something to be concerned about. Any suggestions appreciated.

Since I-90 is a major route over the Cascades, the State DOT are very good at keeping it clear. It's also the lowest of the three passes in the northern part of WA. Late October shouldn't be an issue for snow at that elevation.

Yellowstone and points northwest

baraff, we crossed the northern tier in '12, leaving Cape Cod late Sept and arriving Seattle 2nd week November. Pretty much the I-90 corridor from OH west, except we did not go through Chicago. We had stellar weather, no problems. My research at that time indicated that the probability line for snow through MT, ID, and WA seems to rise most sharply mid-November. Of course, no guarantees in real mountains.
