Yellowstone First Visit

Pls. provide me with useful info on my first trip to Yellowstone-need RV sites, best entrance to park, etc. Leaving in 3 weeks.

There is a lot of if's here. If entering from the South, the roads from Jackson is pretty torn up with construction, not a problem though except for wait time and mud and dust.
If you want full hookups, the only option is Fishing Bridge campground, otherwise all other CG's can take up to about 30'.
Bring groceries as the stores have limited supplies and its 60 miles out of the park.
We was there for a week a couple of weeks ago, really enjoyed it, lot of driving to see sights but worth it.

Go to West Yellowstone and stay at Grizzly RV Park. You won't be disappointed! I didn't care for how tight everything is at Fishing Bridge. I was just there a few weeks ago and loved Grizzly. It was my first Yellowstone visit.

We've stayed in the Grizzly RV Park several times and it only seems to get better each time. Fishing Bridge is a nice place but kinda tight for a big rig plus you get to rub elbows with half of America as it is a very popular place in the park. If you're stay in YNP isn't limited to just the park, the trip down to the Tetons is unforgetable. I'd recommend Colter Bay RV Park if you happen to go.

With your rig, any of the park facilities will be ok. We stayed at Fishing Bridge in May and couldn't be happier.
Assume you've checked "Yellowstone NP" site for road closures?? Coming in from W. Yellowstone and should you want to visit Gardiner (original park entrance - interesting area) it will take ALL day due to road closure.....
Also the map looks like things are nearby - not! With speed limits of 30 to 45 mph and crazy elk ambling along the roadway and crazier yet tourists stopped in the middle of the road taking pictures of the elk, you'll be lucky to average 15 - 20 mph. If a bear shows up, forget it. The road becomes a parking lot.
We enjoyed the east entrance and as previously mentioned, the south (Teton) entrance is seriously under construction.

Just to let you know, the north-west section of the south loop, Madison Jct. to Norris Jct., is closed for the season, rebuilding a bridge.

There were some delays in Teton NP for road re chipping, but not too bad for traffic

When you leave YNP go over to Cody, WY even if it is only a day trip with the toad. You will be very happy.

Fishing bridge is the best place to stay. Why waste time driving into YNP on a daily basis if you stay outside the park? Been there a couple of times and love Fishing Bridge because it is somewhat central to a lot of attractions. Have a great time.

We are currently at Yellowstone and are staying near the west entrance at this place RedRock RV Park Home Page for Motorhome and Fifth-wheel travelers

Check out the photo galleries page - the panoramas are taken from the campground. It's clean, well laid out, quiet and the views are spectacular. Even though its a 20 minute drive to the park, it's spitting distance from Henry's Lake - they have world class trout fishing. It's also 5 miles off the main drag through the area so there's no road noise. Highly recommended!

My Wife and I just returned from Yellowstone and we stayed at Grant Village, just be aware that there are no hookups and there is only one dump station which has a long line each morning. We have a 34 ft class A and the spots were pretty tight and we ran our inverter generator 3 hrs per day to top off our batteries so our heater would run all night (temps dropped to high 30's to low 40's at night) even though there were many RV's in the campground we had several campers upset about generators and had no problem letting RV'ers know about it. Rules say that generators can run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Just remember many of the campgrounds are 40 yrs old and designed for campers of that era.
It takes forever to get from point A to point B and if the buffalo decide to cross the road forget about going anywhere, just turn off the car and wait. Road from just south of Grant Village to Jackson was a muddy mess! We did our research and knew about the construction but it was worse than we thought. Like others have said it takes a long time to get anywhere.

Jhesley, we would need alot more info to help make your vacation better. Yellowstone is a HUGE park and can take all day driving through. Where are coming from? How much time do you have to stay? I hope you are bringing a toad with you as a daily driver. Must see the Tetons as well. We stayed outside the Tetons (south entrance) because, although we have a Class A, our friends who joined us for our trip have a pop-up. Have to be careful of bears and other large animals in the parks! It's a great park, and have fun!
