Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and Jackson Hole

We had a fantastic vacation and really appreciated the tips on routes and places to visit! Here's the link to my trip report, including photos. I broke it into two posts...one for Yellowstone, and one for Grand Teton and Jackson Hole. Hope you enjoy it and find it helpful if you plan to visit.

Good timing. We're leaving from San Diego this Sunday for that area.

Thanks for posting both Tetons and Yellowstone. We will be doing similair trip in a couple of weeks, right after labor day. Unfortunately we will not be taking our mh but flying from east coast. Figured time and money and could not make it work. So we have frequent flier points and will fly into Bozeman MT, and rent car. We will travel down to Jackson Hole on Wed-Fri, then to Yellowstone and Lake hotel and then to west Yellowstone on Sun for a photo safari on mon-Fri. I have never been before and it is on bucket list. We wanted Tuesday-Sunday week, but could not get ff tickets those days. Oh well, next life or trip. Any other must do or see, meals etc that were great.

COOOOOL!!!! Thanks. We can use all the help we can get.

Typically we travel without definite plans or reservation. We are specifically heading out when all of the kids are back in school thereby leaving us more options and less traffic!!!

I hope you are correct about smaller crowds, but back in March we had some difficulty getting reservations anywhere. It seems everyone has the same idea about the week after Labor Day. The second week was no problem. Lodging is crazy expensive, especially in Jackson, the parks or near the entrances. Shame we didn't have the time, fortitude, and unlimited fuel card to enjoy our motorhome. But family responsibilities limit the time we have. Regardless, life is good!

I've called several local parks to Yellowstone. There is availability as of today and for most of the next two weeks.

we are on our way home after a week in Yellowstone and tetons. The grizzly bear cg at the west gate to YS was a great place to camp the night we stayed there but I'm glad we stayed and based the rest of our visit out of fishing bridge cg in the park.
this was definitely a good time of the year to visit with low crowds, lots of camp sites (although I did have my reservations 9 months ago ) and weather 70s during the day and mid 30s at night with clear skies most of the time. my thanks to everyone that contributes to the site, It made our trip planning much easier and I will use it as a resource for the ride back to so cal and future trips.

We are headed to Yellow Stone via Tenn. In a week. We plan of going through the black hills of South Dakota and stay at Grizzly as a base camp. We are going to stay about 2-3 weeks in Yellow Stone (weather permitting) then head to the Tetons, Jackson Hole ect. Before heading south through Utah to Zion , Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, painted desert, back to South Alabama. We have a lot of points of interest to see along the way. We have allowed 1-3 months for the trip. Any suggestions?
