Yellowstone in july?

I am going out to South Dakota and Montana to, in part, to do some genology work.
Some of my ancestors had gone from VT by covered wagon to SD and then Montana, and then some went back to Vt and CT. To think we complain sometimes about driving or moving a few hundred miles
My question, Is it completely unreachable to try and visit Yellowstone? I would need a private campground with electice hookup as I travel with dogs. I heard someone mention once about one nearby that was less packed than fishing bridge etc...
Or should I just skip that and consider it a pipe dream and wait for another year.

You could try Yellowstone's Edge. It is a bit further out, about half way between Yellowstone and Livingston. It is a nice campground and the owners are fantastic!
