Yellowstone In September

We are planning a one month trip from Northeast Florida to Yellowstone in September. Question: How is campground availability in September. Are reservations recommended ?? Question: Do all the government run campgrounds honor Golden Age Passport.

We were there at the end of September and camped in Mammoth and didn’t need reservations, there are still a good number of campers out so it’s not empty. It snowed while we were there, the Elk and Buffalo are everywhere that time of year.

It's the best time to visit! Most visitors have gone home and most likely no reservations needed. We visited 2 times in early October and it was great, had the place to ourselves. It does get cool early, so just plan for that.

Agree with the others....Sept, early Oct. is great. We went out in 2008 in mid Sept. Had reservations at Grizzly in West Yellowstone but really did not need them. Frost at night but nice during the daytime. There were still plenty of visitors but not crowded at all.

The Golden Age Pass will get you in the park. Fishing Bridge is the only true cg in the park and it will not have electricity this year. Latest Headlines
