Yellowstone North Entrance Campgrounds

We are planning a trip to the Tetons and Yellowstone, then returning through the Badlands, in August-September 2019. We will stay at Colter Bay RV Park in the Tetons for 10 days (reservations confirmed). Then we will travel north from the Tetons through the southern sections of Yellowstone to West Yellowstone, where we will stay at Grizzly RV Park for 10 days (reservations confirmed). We are considering adding 3 days in the area of Gardiner at the Yellowstone’s Northwest Entrance in order to be closer to Lamar Valley. To drive from West Yellowstone to Gardiner, we plan on going north on 191 from West Yellowstone to Bozeman, then east on I-90 to Livingston and then south on 89 to the Gardiner area. (We didn’t want to drive the 40 foot DP motorhome towing a Ford Expedition Max through the northern sections of Yellowstone.)

Our question is regarding the private RV parks in the Gardiner area. Has anyone stayed at any of these following parks:

Yellowstone Edge RV Park, which is located on 89 in Emigrant (approx 30 miles
north of the park entrance in Gardiner).

Rocky Mountain RV Park in Gardiner.

Yellowstone RV Park in Gardiner.

Upon reviewing RV Park Reviews about the two campgrounds in Gardiner some campers raised concerns about the size of the camp sites and accessibility to them for larger rigs. The Yellowstone Edge RV Park appears to have better access and larger sites, but it is further from the park entrance, thereby increasing daily (TOAD) drive time into and back from the Lamar area.

We would appreciate hearing from anyone who has stayed at any of these three parks.

Thank you for your assistance,

BonnieV

We stayed in Yellowstone RV park right there in Gardiner for two nights last June. Our 32 footer with Jeep JKU fit fine. There were other bigger RVs in there but I could not tell you how much room they had left over. It was very convenient to the north entrance. We had an Elk mother with newborn calf in the campground. Had to be very cautious to not get between them or too close.

Since you have 10 days in Yellowstone I'd just do Lamar from W. Yellowstone. You have plenty of time to spend 1 or 2 days.

We have stayed many times at Mammoth campground in Yellowstone close to Gardiner. We loved it there.

With our 40' MH towing we also entered and exited the North entrance.

Yellowstone Edge is too far to stay just for seeing Lamar Valley.

At the North entrance, about a mile inside the park, there is a turn out to park at and you can walk down to a hot spring to soak in. It's been 20 years for me, so I'm not sure if it is still open to the public. Ask a local while in Gardiner.
