I think it would be a lot more pleasant touring if you drive cars. Parking at the major attractions for a 38' motorhome wouldn't be easy and you'd waste a lot of time trying to fit in. There are plenty of places for restrooms. Pack lunches and find a beautiful spot in one of the many picnic areas. If you take a tour it will be very expensive for all of you and in your own vehicles you'd be able to stop at smaller, quieter places than a tour bus would.

Patrick, it's great that you are working out the kinks, with plenty of time to spare, it worries me when travelers say "We will be in Yellowstone tomorrow, what can see in two days".


Yes, summer is crowded, I have seen the West Entrance backed-up to the town of West Yellowstone, a distance of a good few blocks.


Lock down your RV Park reservations either late fall of 2015 or early 2016.


I know, I plan far ahead, don't like surprises, when we are traveling.

By the way, if you can possibly spare a day, take your toad out the northeast entrance to the park. The 60 miles of U.S. 212 (Beartooth Highway) is one of the most spectacular scenic roads in the country. The high point is just shy of 10,000'.

Have lunch in Red Lodge, and then turn around and come back. You will hit Cooke City just in time for dinner. The Cooke City Cafe has great food at very reasonable prices. If you enjoy craft beer, their list runs several pages.

If you need some evening entertainment, check the schedule at Schedule - Montana Shakespeare in the Parks Several of their performance locations are right around Yellowstone.

Got my reservations at Headwaters Flaggs Ranch for three nights after the Sturgis Run. It is a nice spot with a restraint, gas and store a couple of miles from the South entrance. You do not get any wifi or cell service though but we can deal with that. If you really need to get cell service you can drive out and away from Yellowstone about 5 miles or so and at that point you should be ale to make a call. They have upgraded so every site has 50/30/20A service.

I have stayed there 4-5 times and have really enjoyed my stay. Being that close to the entrance is great.

Ha ha!! we could travel together any day buddy! I am the same way.. I cannot stand surprises for ANY vacation. Im an insanely anal planner. But to answer your question, yep our reservations are already made at Yellowstone Holiday Resort. I too had heard make them well in advance! darn glad we did.

Thanks you guys!! great info!! I am putting this data in my document that I am saving for the trip!!! Beartooth is on the checklist!!! My niece's boyfriend's family has a place in Cooke City. So it too is on the list!!!

We did the big loop in a 35 ft motorhome two summers ago. There was plenty of parking at old faithful when we got there early, but by the time we left we were almost parked in and nearly couldn't get out. I don't know what people are thinking parking that close to a 20 year old motorhome... As if I cared if I accidentally ran over the front of their car with it... Lol!

We missed mammoth springs because there was no parking... But we did manage to find parking at Yellowstone Grand Canyon.

At the end of the day, traveling with 10 or 12 people in an rv is more fun than stopping at all those places anyways... Regardless of seat belts. Just my $.02.

Fwiw.. Our rv sleeps 6 and has 10 seat belts. Although, a seat belt isn't going to save you in an rv if you do a swan dive off a switchback somewhere... Lol.

Um yeah... now you have me second guessing. Seat belts, we dont ever make anyone wear em except for the driver & passenger. I couldnt even tell you how many belts we have. I know there is sleeping for 8 so I have to assume there are 8 seat belts....haha!! thanks man for the answer!! love it.
