Yosemite/Tioga Pass

Tomorrow May 11 Tioga Pass will open @ noon for those looking to enter the Park from the Eastern Entrance coming from Lee Vining & 395. It's a awesome drive !

I went to Google maps and did the street view from Lee Vining/395. What a world of difference in the road from the last time I traveled it with my parents in early 60's. Back then it was mostly dirt and gravel, parts of it was single line. Lot of fun when you meet another vehicle. Part of the movie Long Long Trailer with Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz was filmed on it.

That is one of the earliest openings I can remember from our 28 years in Fresno. After the death up there in the (90's?) they were always very careful about rushing to open it.
Tuolumne Meadows is one of the prettiest spots in Yosemite.

We live out in our old van. Travel all across this land. Drive until the city lights dissolve into a country sky, me and you - hand in hand.

Actually that is terrible news as it is indicative of a record low snow pack. Going to make it hard for the farmers to get their free water.

It was opened the second week of June in '96 when I was there.

We drove that route last year in July (in our 1984 Tioga no less). Beautiful route!
