Zion canyon campground

We are planning a trip to Zion next week and don't want to pull the toad if we don't have to. We have searched the campgrounds and would like to stay at Zion River Resort, but are concerned that we would have to rent a car just to get to the park shuttles. Zion Canyon Campground has transportation, but looks a bit funky. Has anyone stayed in either?

Zion River Resort is a really nice facility. They allow open fires or did when we were there so if wood smoke puts you off then you should consider (we were there in spring rules may change for summer).

1-888-822-8594 give them a call, they cater to the park visitors and may have a shuttle.

Have stayed at both and would recommend Zion River Resort as it is quite a bit newer and has better facilities. Downside is that it is just outside of Virgin UT, about 20 min from the entrance to Zion. You have to drive through Springdale to get to the park but a very easy drive. I usually am towing my Subaru so driving isn't a problem.

Zion Canyon Campground is pretty old, although I understand it has been upgraded recently. It's at the north end of Springdale, just outside the entrance to Zion. They have sites which back up to the Virgin River but it's pretty dusty with little grass. Lots of trees, though. We used to stay here when we had our Tioga Class C and had no problems with getting in/out of the sites. The kids used to love playing in the river as it's pretty small and tame at this location.

We went to Bryce and Zion this year (June). We stayed at Zion River Resort. I debated whether or not to pull the car and am glad I did. ZRR is a nice resort but it's a drive to the park entrance. Not a difficult drive but irritated me after a couple of days. For us it was too far to go back and forth to the park throughout the day. ZRR will shuttle you to the closest free shuttle stop into the park but it's not free. If we were to go again, we would look for something closer to the park entrance. If something was available in the park we would forgo the hook ups and stay in
the park.

I stayed at the Watchman Campground right inside the park. Walk to shuttles and walk to town.

Our friends stayed at the RV park by the Quality Inn right outside the park and just waded across the Virgin River every day to meet up with us.

Zion Canyon at Springdale is your best bet. The free shuttle will pick you up right at the campground or you can even very easily walk to the park itself and the Visitor Center where the shuttles also begin. Zion Canyon really is o.k. You're not going to be spending much time at the campground anyway. Also, it right on the stream so that's pleasant. Ourselves, we would just stay IN the park at Watchman Campground. It's right next to the Visitor Center. Our 40' motorhome fits there. Have a good trip!

We've stayed at the Zion River Resort quite a few times. As a matter of fact, we'll be there again this coming weekend. It's a great resort and the short drive to Zion from the resort is beautiful.
