Heading through Utah tomorrow night and want to see Zion National Park. Any suggestions on where to stay with our 37' MH?

We are parked right now at Bauer's Canyon Ranch RV in Glendale, UT (435-648-2448) and at about $25.00 a night, it's a pretty good base to go into Zion NP. Nothing too fancy, but has 50 amp service, good water and sewer. There are some CGs closer to the park, but didn't look as good and they were right on Hwy 89. Owner here is very helpful with info on the park...also there is a couple of burros that will vocally welcome you to the ranch!

No affiliation...we are staying a couple extra days here as a rest stop before going on to the GCNP. Hope this helps if not too late. Bob

We stayed at Bauer's Canyon Ranch 3 years ago. Nice place, but we couldn't get reservations this year for some reason. Good thing, because they are rebuilding the entire road to east Zion, and there there are periodic closings of the road and tunnel to east Zion. Bauer's Canyon is on the east side of the park. Even when the road was open there was one-way traffic and long delays. Check the Zion web site for info on the road closing schedule.

This year we stayed at Zion River Resort in Virgin, UT, on the west side. A little expensive, but a nice RV park and a lot closer to the visitor center.

I second Zion RV Resort. We recently stayed there for 5 days and just 18 miles to Zion NP.

the last time we were in Zion we stayed in the park. They have a dry campground and you can get water and dump your sewer. the campsights are cheap and large and it is a wonderful camp ground. You get close to nature because you are not bothered with all the ''amenities'' like cable and wi fi . We stayed there for seven days and loved it. This is my suggestion. We dry camp at every opportunity. Try it, you might like it.

If any openings, stay at Watchman right in the park. Easy walk to shuttle bus and you will see more of the park if you're there for a short time. CG has electric but no water or sewer.

Stayed there for 5 days in July. Narrows, hidden canyon, angels landing all great trails. Take a swim in the virgin river.

Another for Zion RV resort, very nice CG. Far enough away from the park to be very quiet but just a short drive to the park. Some sites can be a little tight so disconnect you toad and you should be ok.

We stayed at Bauer's Canyon Ranch RV Park this past May. I highly recommend it. Nice folks. Central location to Zion and Bryce and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Be aware that, depending on your route, Zion has two tunnels which are not wide enough for some rigs. They actually will close them to two-way traffic so certain rigs can get through. This means driving in the middle of the road for at least 1 to 2 miles.

Have fun. Zion is beautiful.

We were just in Zion yesterday and yes, there is some construction on the east side of the canyon on Hwy. 9. The one way sections will hold you up but we only experienced maybe 10 min. delays at each of these sections (were only 3 of these). Traffic from 9 AM to 4 PM on this road section is subject to traffic control but is open. From 4 PM to 9 AM, road is closed for the construction.

Of the 14 NPs we've visited this summer, Zion is possibly our favorite. The shuttles into the canyon must be taken (no private vehicles due to the lack of parking) and are lackluster at best. While on the shuttle, one can not see the surrounding mountains due to the roof structure of the coaches. They do have frequent stops and a shuttle is never more than 6-7 minutes away...so you can get off to look around. Someone sure dropped the ball on these shuttles!

The drive through the Park will knock your socks off though... Bob

We were there earlier this Summer on a five-park tour in 2 weeks. Stay in the park and support your National Parks!

Thank you all for these wonderful suggestions and tips! We're here at the Zion River Resort and what everyone said is true. It's a first class RV Park with full hookups, nice pool, all the ammenities you can imagine and a wonderful staff. We're taking the shuttle into the park this morning so we can beat the heat, then continuing east on I-70. We've never done the rockies, so any suggestions for a good overnight spot there? Vail? Aspen? Thanks again for all the help.

How large a rig can the Park campgrounds accomodate?

We are, apparently belatedly, trying to plan a trip to Utah that will begin on Sept 15. Turns out all the reservable campsites in the national parks we have checked so far are full.
Could anyone here give us an idea if the first-come-first-served sites usually fill up in late September?

Same question about Bryce if anyone knows.
We have a 32-ft gas MH with a Ford Escape toad.
