Anybody going to Richmond International Raceway?

Is anybody going to the NASCAR race at Richmond September 6-8? We are going to try it out. We will arrive at Lot J on Thursday the 6th. Warren

I wish we were going. If you haven't been to a NASCAR event, I think you'll find it a lot of fun. Our home track is Talladega and we try to make it there at least once a year. We typically don't park at the track, but drive in each day. Enjoy

We will be there and arriving on Thursday also. We have been to Richmond, Dover, Bristol, Charlotte and Pocono and Richmond is our favorite by far.

Years ago they ran the Trucks and IROC cars on Thursday night. The date for the truck race went to Talladega. I always thought that the short tracks were better for the truck series.

You will have a great time. Make sure you have a radio or scanner to listen to the radio broadcast while watching the race.

I've been to Daytona and Pocono and do enjoy the races. What makes this race a first for me is boondocking in lot J. I got the bug a couple of months ago when a much younger RVer told me what a good time he has in lot J. I expect it will be a wild time, just not sure if that will be wild good or wild bad. Waiting till last minute to decide on quiet or not quiet parking. If it seems like it will be hot and muggy at night we may opt for the loud area so we can run the generators all night

Good meeting you the other night. Where did you recommend camping at the Dover race?

You also. Stop by if you like, we are just hanging out today.
The Dover Mall. No reservations needed $150 for the weekend
And for tickets, you want to sit between turns 3 and 4. This way you will not be staring at the sun all day. About 10 rows from the top? Not too high because the sun and wind will be at your back. I will message you my contact information we can chat via email or phone.

Have a great day !

Well we made it home from the races. Three days of boon docking with thousands of others. What a blast. My wife asked me to rate the weekend from 1-10 (she's a nurse) and I told her 11. And to add to the weekend a fellow Ivr2 user , Gene, stopped by. If you've never done it, it should be put on your bucket list...unless you don't like NASCAR racing. Can't wait for the next one, who knows, maybe Dover in two weeks.

It was great meeting you. We will stay in contact for future races, it's always a nice feeling to know that someone is around.

Here is the Dover parking link. Click here

Again sit between turns 3 & 4.

I just got off the phone with them. Good Sam was advertising a good price for the weekend. Trying to see if our schedules will allow us another weekend.

What were your thoughts about camping at Richmond, in general? It looks like everything I've seen (track property) is packed really, really tight there. I've been on a wait-list for a really long time trying to get reserved parking and wondering if it's worth it...

Also, was it party-central-crazy, too?

Thanks!

You are definitely packed in at Lot J. However, it was not a problem at all. In fact being close together gave the added benefit of shade. Plenty of room in our site for TT, truck and another car. Having passed my 30's long ago, I was concerned how I would deal with the wild ones. I'm sure they were there but I didn't see or hear them. My biggest surprise was the generator noise. I have 2 Hondas that make very little noise. I didn't figure on most people having large loud ones. Having said that, it really didn't bother us at all. It drowns out all the other noise. Once in the TT we hear very little outside as our AC unit takes over with white noise. We stayed in the loud lot but it looked like the quiet lot may have a little bigger spaces. We opted for loud so we could run our generators all night. Bottom line, this was my first experience with camping at a NASCAR race. I had high hopes and WAS NOT disappointed at all. In fact I may go to Dover in 3 weeks and do it all over again.
