We were in that area a few weeks ago. Traffic was so bad getting off I-40 for Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge that we decided to stay at the new Anchor Down RV resort on Lake Douglas near Dandridge TN. But... if i was closer I'd run up there and check out that new GE fridge of yours.

on edit, i looked at the date and see you're probably already back on the road by now!

Pushing into Maine tomorrow. We actually stayed on 40, bypassed Gatling and came from the backside of 321. And that weekend gatlinburg was PACKED!

Where'd you stay in Mass? We'll be there in another week.

Go for the lobster-- the whole show. Forget the lobster rolls, lobster pies-- such things are for amateurs and tourists who look at a live lobster and say "Eeewww!"

Just grab a holt o' one o' those red big boys and commence disassembly!!! Knuckle meat 's the best, save the tamale for last. ;-) ;-)

Traveling through Pigeon Forge can be hell during the day. They also held Rod Days last week which made it even worse. We stayed in Deep Creek out in Bryson City for the Labor day week.

I ran into a guy in Livingston Virginia at the TA campground that told us about Anchor Down. He said it was one of the best places he's been to in a long time.

I wouldn't go that far. Yes it is nice and new, and the views of the lake and mountains are spectacular. But when we were there the place was overrun with kids in golfcarts (not the adults driving as most places require), on bikes, and skateboards. I finally turned on the A/C fan about midnight to drown out the noise.

The sites are beautifully landscaped, paved, and pristine condition. But many of them are way off level. Our front tires were about 4-5 inches off the ground while the rear jacks were not even touching. We saw one tag axle DP with both rear axles 5 or 6 inches off the ground. With all the money they obviously spend on that place, it should be level...just my opinion though.

Thanks for the second opinion. We were really excited from what we were told that we were going to make it our place to go next year.

I'll have to look a little closer at this one.

We want to go back too. All of the level sites appear to be the sites that directly overlook the lake and on the lower level. These were all filled when we were there. I think when we go again I'll be sure to reserve one of those sites.

Good choice! We've stayed there a few times, and lived in the next town for 15 years. Not this time, though. They don't offer a monthly rate, and they're closing Oct 18. We're staying 'til Nov 15.
