Illinois Spring Fling!!!

Well kids,
It is time to start the discussion for this years Spring Fling!!
Randy Blase and I were just talking about getting it setup.
We are thinking southern Illinois if anyone has an idea please feel free to share a location.....some of you know or were there last year for the Cape Girardeau Spring Fling and it was great!!
We are going to be looking for a quality campground with hopefully concrete pads!
Share your ideas and stay tuned!!
Craig

Craig, I responded in the IRV2 Chatters on Facebook but will respond here also. Jim and I enjoyed the gathering last year a lot. There are 3 of us that were there last year that will be in Hot Springs, AR for a rally in late April. Besides us Tim and Mary Gifford and Don and Sandee. We are leaving Hot Springs and will be making our way to Illinois sometime in mid to late May. Just our 2 cents worth.

Hi Ginny!!
It is nice to hear from you!
I am going to keep your plans in mind when we try to set this up.
It is so difficult to try and make everyone happy but, I am going to do my best!
I hope the New Year brings you and Jim all the happiness you deserve!

Craig

I'm afraid that my favorite camp ground down there isn't suitable for a large gathering. Have you ever tries camping at the Trail of Tears State Forest near Anna?

The road through the camp ground runs along the top of a very narrow ridge. Most of the ridge has drop offs on both sides. In the few spots where it widens our a little, they put in a camp site. As a consequence, the sites tend to be spread out at roughly half mile intervals. Several of the sites have three sided stone and log shelters that were built by the CCC.

We have been there on some days when we saw more turkeys than people.

I'll keep an eye on this thread for future developments.

Joel

Hello Buddy!

I'm afraid that the only time frame we see open is May 2-5. We need to run to Macon, GA after that to be there for the impending birth of a new Grand-daughter expected in mid may.

Keep us posted.

We could also do Memorial Day weekend or maybe the weekend of June 13th.

Of course I am assuming we are looking at a weekend event. We are open to weekdays...being retired is grand!

Have you looked at Rend Lake? I think they have a couple of group areas that can accommodate several campers, although I don't know how far in advance they have to be reserved.

Hey Randy, No I did not get my new motorhome. We did look but since we are not sure how long we are going to be traveling, maybe just another year or two beyond this we just couldn't justify the expense. However, a monster, actually two monsters were created in Ouray this year on a mountain pass in Jeeps. Jim bought a Jeep Wrangler this week and can hardly wait to get back to a mountain pass. However, we are going east this year so I'm not sure how many mountain passes he will find but plan on going west next year. I, however, will still not be going on any mountain passes. My job is to stay back at the MH cooking for all that do go on the pass. lol

We are coming through southern Illinois and St. Louis sometime between mid to late May this year. If the Illinois Spring fling is anywhere near the time we will be there I'm sure we will attend that and if not maybe we can meet up in St. Louis.

Jim posted a picture of the new Jeep on the RU A RV Mutant area. I think it is on page 826 or 827 if you want to see it.
