Indy 500 - 2017

We are planning on attending the 2017 Indy 500 race next year. Not sure if we should try and stay somewhere around the track or look for a campground close by. Would like suggestions and tips from those that have attended. I understand we should get our tickets immediately after the 2016 race as they sell out quickly.

We've stayed at Lake Haven Retreat on the south side of Indy, approximately 10-15 minutes (14 miles) away from the speedway. Not a lot of RV parks to choose from in the Indy area. TONS of golf courses to play. If you can get on Brickyard Crossing before they shut it down, play it. Another good track is The Fort, both are Pete Dye tracks. If Indy had 1/2 the choices of RV parks that it does for golf, it would be the best of both worlds.

It is not upscale/fancy, but the Indianapolis State Fairgrounds campground is another option.
