Infield Camping at Daytona

Has anyone experienced infield camping at Daytona and if so, can you see much of the track or are tickets necessary. Thinking about attending in February 2011 and wondering if some of the racing could be watched from the top on the RV. Location would be close to Lake Lloyd back stretch. Any opinions would be much appreciated. I would also be interested in any experiences while attending speedweeks at Daytona. Thanks
Jim

I wish I could help from personal experience (someday I'll get there!), but you might want to check out these sites to see if they help with your info gathering:

Infield Camping at Daytona

I've camped in the infield at Daytona. Although the exprience is a blast, it's not like camping on the infield at Talladega. Unless you're on top of your MH, you can only see the back stretch or turns. I would recommend purchasing tickets. The lake in the middle of the track is more a hinderance when watching the race rather than an aid. Happy camping and enjoy the race. If you can get a infield spot at Dega, it's well worth it.

I have done the infield a couple of times. If you want to see the race the stands are the place to be. Dega as mentioned is a whole different story. Have fun

Was down there last week for quals, Bridgestone 200 and the Rolex 24. Upper deck of the front stretch for me. And a quiet campsite somewhere away from the track. I can't justify $2-$3k for a long week of loud camping. (The new surface looked awesome and some great, cool and sunny days of racing.) Enjoy the 500.

Thanks for the comments. We do have tickets for the races next weekend but was wondering if they were needed for the shootout and ARCA race. I think we'll climb on top for the ARCA and if not happy, go to the grandstand for the shootout. Again, thanks for your comments.

We got to stay infield for a Good Sam Rally--not for a race. Got to drive the motorhome on the racetrack. They were letting RV test drives on the track. We were able to "climb" up turn 3, it is amazing to see the slope of the curves in person.
