Howdy,

Is there a "Best" RV place to stay in this area?

SSteve,
Don't know just what you are looking for in a park and we haven't been there for several years, but there is an an RV Park at Laguna Seca Raceway.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....Such fond memories there!
Sacs and I Spent our honeymoon at the racetrack there 30 years ago from last weekend! Danny Ongais #00..Bob Tulius #44... (I swear..I don't know how this stuff comes to me!! What is even just as scary is I remember... Ongais' car was black..Tulius' was white & British racing Green )

A year later, I watched John Bauer and his Porche 911 flipping & rolling in front of me while Sacs and the other couple were walking the track...and YES I got multiple pics with a Pentax auto 110...

MM

PS...SSteve..when & for what reason are you going to be in the area? That may make a difference as to where you should stay...

MM,

There's no real answer to the when or what.

When we hit the road next year, its a definite destination...at least for me. Just want to see a race or two (type doesn't matter) and get a good look at the track, especially the cork screw.

AHHHHHHH... then you need to plan in advance if you want to stay there during a race!

I would call ans see what their procedures ar now. I had to call the first business day of the year the last time we camped there for a race..in other words- reserve on Jan 2 for a campsite later in the year!

It is an awesome track..especially the corkscrew!

Enjoy your visit!

MM

Good info,

However, back to my original question.

Is there a "Best" RV place to stay in this area?

Best doesn't just mean close.

Steve,

There are CGs just north of Salinas on Hwy. 101, but I'd be remiss to recommend them as they were "el dumpos" the last time I checked into them. There is Lake Alpine and Betable further north on 101 about 17 miles north of Salinas, both are nice.

Perhaps the closest are in Sand City and Moss Landing on Hwy 1. They are both nice, but pricey.

You should really enjoy Laguna Seca. I remember the old track from my teenage days and later when I got an opportunity to drive it in a Formula Ford. It is now longer but the corkscrew is still the same. In a closed wheeled car (a car with fenders) it is difficult to see the apex of the second turn of the corkscrew so we would enter the top turn and then count the seconds needed to turn to the right to properly apex the second turn.

No matter where you camp, enjoy it and the races too.

Paul,

Thanks for the info.

I can only hope to get an opportunity to drive it. I keep hearing there really is a Santa Claus. But, it'll be enough to spend a little time there.
