NASCAR Martinsville Speedway

Heading out tomorrow for the race. Anyone else going to Martinsville this weekend?

We are staying in the reserved RV camping lot. Anyone know how often the trains go by?

Has anyone stayed there in the last few years to share their experience.

Thanks

My wife and I go with a group of friends every fall - love the short track racing!! Reserved camping is the way to go. When you get there look at some of the people up on the hill close to the showers - see some crazy set ups - trains come by about 2 to 3 times a day - no big deal but they seem to have timing down so they block exit after the race. Have fun!!! We always do.

Jason, we arrived around 4:00 PM on Thursday, weather was nice 50's. The reserve campground was extremely wet from snow that fell Monday and Tuesday. There we already several class A's stuck and a lot of deep mud tracks all around the site.

Fortunately our site was up the hill and the area was relatively dry.

We watched the SPRINT CUP haulers arrive and drive into the track.

Did the vendors routine on Friday and then watched qualifying.

Note: The Martinsville Hot Dogs are more than overrated, what a disappointment they were. Darrell Waltrip exaggerates about them.

Saturday night the police came around announcing high winds expected starting at 10:00 PM till 10:00 PM Sunday night.

10:15 the winds came and of course the drunks didn't adhere to the warnings, they just kept on drinking. Tents and awnings not to mention sparks from fires people did not put out were flying all over. Not a good scene if you have an RV that you take care of.

The people (drunks) behind us lost their awning and a pop up tent that almost hit our RV. It was not a good scene.

Sunday we woke up to some snow flurries, at the race it was freezing, we were on turn four, row 35 and the wind blew the whole time. Sun came out as you saw came out for a few minutes but it didn't warm the stands up much.

Race was not as exciting as I had hoped, some exciting times but I had hoped for some aggressive driving and a much more exciting race.

Sunday evening we watched wreckers pulling Class A's out of the mud and again on Monday AM.

Trains run a few times a day not really an issue, inconsiderate people were more of an issue than the train noise.
