I read a lot of posts here and can honestly say that this is the first I recall about theft being a concern there. I guess the question is... has anyone heard of any theft problems there more recently than over ten years ago?

Hi BeachDude

Why can't your friends that were the victims of this heinous crime post here? Were their fingers broken as well? It would lend far more credence to this thread if we could hear it from the "horse's mouth"

FWIW I have boondocked many times in most of the BLM sites in Quartzsite and have never had a problem. Just great people having a great time there.

I'm sure with all the RV's parked out in the desert, that theft does happen but lets put it in perspective, thousands and thousands of RV's and as many possibilities for a chance of getting ripped off. Add to that, someone who wants to be isolated from others because they don't want to hang with the "old folk"..then that possibility becomes even greater. So, what's the moral of the story, don't be a "loner"! I still believe in the "good" I see displayed by Most RV'ers and their ability to keep watch while others are away.

See ya in "Q"!!!!

Is there a first-hand account of this, or police report online? Nothing online about this.

We are in Q now and have been for 6 weeks and according to the local paper, the Desert Messenger, there have been 12 arrests in town between Nov 26 - Dec 9. One for speeding, 1 for driving without corrective lenses, 3 assaults, 1 disorderly conduct, 2 for theft, 1 for consuming alcohol in public, 1 for criminal damage, 1 for failure to control a vehicle to avoid a collision, and 1 for having dogs off leash. I'm getting out of here. LOL.

We were there last year. There are thousands of RVs there. Some park a mile away from everyone. Many cluster together. I felt very safe parking near others.

Looks like the police a bit bored!! Ticket for not wearing glasses and dog off leash. Ya I'm worried. But I plan being out there anyway. I like taking chances. Lol

The wife and I were out for a drive the other day and noticed on a corner lot in one of the residential areas, several 5th wheels set up with sheriff vehicles in front of them. It looks like they're gearing up for the crazies.

Quartzsite is relatively safe. There are so many groups that meet and stay together and have a great time, very few if any problems. 99% of the campers are honest.
In over 13 years of full time RVing, I only had problems in Mexico.
