Being a newbie and preparing to head cross country for the next three months, I'd like to know more about rallies. What happens there? What is their purpose? I assume that many vendors are there... is this a good place to get deals on aftermarket items?

Your insights would be appreciated.

the thing is:
a rallie in the nascar area would be a nascar rallie: a rallie in the TT & 5th Wheel conference will be a TT & 5th Wheel Rallie,
and so on...

"What is their purpose?"
the purpose is for people to meet...

The venders "if the rallie calls for venders" yes this is a good place to get aftermarked items "and new items"

i believe im telling ya right but if someone else jumps in they will tell me...

Rallies serve a variety of purposes. As WaveMaker says, some will be for NASCAR events, some for travel trailer owners, some for motor homes (FMCA), some will even be for specific makes of RVs, some are primarily for full-timers (Escapees), and some will be more general (Good Sam). Some will empahsize comaraderie, some will emphasize seminars, some will center around a specific event, etc. Look for one that emphasizes the aspect of RVing that interests you. Most will have at least a tentative agenda well ahead of time so you can see entertainment schedules, seminar topics, vendor lists, etc. If you have a motor home and are interested in aftermarket vendors, FMCA conventions are a good place to go.

Thanks much to both of you for the insight. I'll keep my eyes open for one that interests us and then "get my feet wet".

Ricko, about the only rally on IRV2 that has any vendors is the National Rally. All of the local rallies are just to visit with old friends and make new friends.

Find a group in your area and plan to visit.

RickO,

If you are looking for lots of vendors, consider The Rally in Redmond OR starting July 19, 2007. This is a huge four day rally with perhaps 5000+ rigs in attendance. Each day is filled with seminars, displays and vendors. You may be too late for early registration rates and probably only dry camping will be available. We attended in 2005 and will be there again this year. If you have further questios, please don't hesitate.

My take is:

If ya want vendors, rig MFG's and that stuff go to a BIG rally.

If ya want fun, fellowship, food and activities/venues and some vendors go to a medium size rally. (Under 100 rigs)

If ya want Fellowship, meeting new friends, visiting with old friends (Those you met at other rallies snd such) , LOTS of GREAT food and campfire chat go to a reigional rally. (Like the rallies in the various reigions here)

Me, I get more enjoyment out of the reigional or small rallies. Lots of campfire chatter and again, LOTS of GREAT food. Then the National IRV2.COM rally to visit with those I have gotten to know fromthe forum. Also to meet those I have not that I see post on the forum. To me the IRV2.COM is my "Big rally" of the year.

I have been to the super duper wiz bang you betchya-red-ryder-special big rallies due to my part in a business partnership. So I have "Been there and done that" so to speak. If I did not have to go to some of the "Big ones" due to the business, I wouldn't go at all. I did not and do not enjoy them. Too many people at one place at one time to be enjoyable. To me the "Biggies" are strictly business.
