2014 iRV2 National Rally Route

We are looking forward to attending our first iRV2 National Rally. In saying this, we are looking at a map for the best route to take from San Antonio, Texas to Myrtle Beach. Whatever route we decide will have to include an RV Park on the way to stay the night then making our way to Myrtle Beach the next day. We are thinking possibly staying the night in Mississippi or Alabama. We welcome any suggestions on routes to take as we know some of you have more road travel experiences. Thank you in advance. Using MapQuest, it appears that total one-way miles from SA to MB is about 1330-1350 miles depending on the route you would take. MapQuest is easy to use and will usually give you 2-3 route options after you enter the your beginning and end destinations. It appears that about 1/2 way would be around Jackson,Ms if you take the second routing choice. Here is a link to MapQuest for you to try. MapQuest Maps - Driving Directions - Map Click on the "Get Directions" box and (2) other boxes, A&B will open up. Enter your beginning town & state in A then your ending destination in B, followed by enter. Total distance/time from A to B will be given for the 2-3 route options shown. It also give you the option of printing the visual routing along with step by step instructions for whatever route you choose.

Another good link for finding rv parks to stay at on whatever route you pick is RV Parks Review. Reviews of RV Parks and Campgrounds - RV Park Reviews Click the link, select the state, then search the city you are looking for. Don't see anything in the town choice, then look at the Rand McNally map book and pick another town on your route. Most of the time, other rvers have stayed at 1 or more parks in the area you are researching, and left a review of the park(s) in the area. It's best to also have a Rand McNally book of US maps when researching your route. Here is another link that might be of help. Distance Between Cities | Driving distance calculator Good luck and see you at the rally in September. This will be our 6th IRV2 National Rally and I'm sure you will have a great time at Ocean Lakes CG.

WOW that's about 700 miles per day. We usually only make 300 miles

See you there, be careful

Its strictly your business, but 700 miles/day (that'll be 12-14 hrs per day) for two days is hard work, particularly if you're not inured to long-distance driving. In the Round trip you'll cross 12 states but see and remember nothing but 2800 miles of Interstate asphalt. I would suggest making it a 3-day trip, if your available time allows. I know "available time" can be hard. Doesn't seem like much change, but it will make a world of difference.

Of course, this advice comes from someone whose basic travel planning is to *average* 100 miles per day. We usually only travel about 200 or so at one bite.

Have a nice trip!

I've got to agree with the others. We do about 4-5 hours a day, sometimes less. Traveling in the MH can be grueling. The other good point is you see nothing but road. You will be traveling through some beautiful countryside to get here. A shame not to enjoy it. Of course if you don't have the time, drive safe and we can't wait to meet you at the Rally.

Go to the Good Sam website. The website will ask you where you are starting and where you are going and will help you select a route. It will mark every Good Sam campground along the way as well as Gas stations if you desire.
Just google Good Sam and it will come right up.
