Used to live in NJ, I have always found I-81 much better than I-95 in both conditions of the road and flow of traffic.

I usually do whatever I can to avoid I-95.

Have a safe trip.

81 is far better than 95. Cheaper too.

If you take 81 to 84, keep in mind northest PA grows rocks wonderfully, many of which choose to do so on 84 between it's juncture with 81 and the NY state line (wave as you pass exit 34/PA 739 - Lords Valley). NY gets a little better.

Just came up on I 81 and found a little construction through Harrisburg but otherwise the roads were good. I will never drive I95 again through NJ, NY or Maryland. It might seem shorter but you will spend much more time in each state stuck in traffic
