Alabama to the west next spring

We are retiring at the end of this year and plan to make a trip out west next year. We are pulling a 44 ft. fifth wheel with a 2019 Silverado diesel dually. Some of our stops we have planned are Waco, TX., Surprise, AZ., the Grand Canyon, and north CO. We have not traveled much out west (my wife has never been) and would like some insight to things within reasonable distances of said route that we REALLY need to see or do. Time is not a big issue but the trip would already be over 4K miles. We are planning 5-6 weeks but can extend that if need be. Thanks for any input.

First, is there a specific reason for Waco, Surprise and what town in northern Colorado? That makes a difference in routing.

For Waco, Surprise & Grand Canyon South Rim you'll want to be there in April to first part of May. After that it gets HOT. You might have to kill some time after Grand Canyon if you want to do northern Colorado as it could still be winter in the mountains.

A little more information please. Also, what are your likes for things to do?

These three blog posts show what we also did in addition to the Grand Canyon while staying at Distant Drums RV Resort in Camp Verde:

There is so much to see and do. Extend the trip to 5-6 months should be about right. Heck, I could line you up with a months worth of stuff in Oregon and only hit the highlights. Dont forget Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, and Glacier parks.

It’s a big country

5-6 weeks will allow you to see some of it, so what do you want out of this trip?

What do You enjoy?

Water - Streams - Lakes ?

Rocks - canyons - Big trees - Geysers- ......

Do you hike?

Are you a photographer?

I could go on and on so I think you get the message - It’s your Trip let’s do what you and the DW enjoy.

Give us a little more direction and the group will try to help you out.

Best of Luck,

My bet is it's the wife's idea to stop in Waco.
