Thanks everyone. So many options.
Looks like more study for me.

40 is easy, just Memphis and Birmingham, then down through Montgomery on to I-10.
That might be best???

Not much difference in travel days either route.

OP: To avoid the heart of Dallas just take 287 to Wichita Falls then pick up 82 toward Texarkana. We've done that. You can drop down at that point to Shreveport, Louisiana and I-20.

Or... 287 to Vernon, TX then pick up 70 to Idabel, OK? and drop down to Texarkana. Lots of ways to skirt a big city.
