Antonito, Co to Chama, Nm state hwy 17

Antonito, Co to Chama, Nm

I am planning a trip next year (around June) I will be traveling to Chama,NM from Colorado and would like to take state hwy 17 from Antonito to Chama.

I would like to know if anyone has traveled this road it looks like there are some steep grads I donít believe I will have any trouble but just asking.

I will be pulling a 35ft 5th wheel with a 2003 f-350 Diesel.

Thank Y'all for the information and advice

I have been to the top of the pass in a car. You should be okay with what you have.

I haven't driven it, but did take the Bus between train stations. The tour busses travel it most of the time the road is open. I would of had no problem driving my 40' DP and toad across it. The following year we did drive the Million Dollar Highway in the MH with Toad.

I have driven and yes some steep grades so pick your gear and go slow to enjoy the beautiful drive. Recommend the Cumbres & Toltec train from Chama to Antonito, they bring you back from the day trip on a very comfortable bus.

Agree with the above--some very nice scenery, have been over it several times with my 450/Suites combo and no problems.

I took my 36' DP towing a 20' trailer over that road about 5 years ago, nice drive and not difficult at all.
