Anyone take their RV on Cades Cove loop in the Smokies
Taking the family on a Quick 2019 shakedown trip in a few weeks. I thought about driving the Cades cove loop in the RV but I was not sure if that was doable. I know it is a one way road loop around. I was not sure if there were places to park along the way for a large rig. I also did not know if there were treacherous roads along the way to get there and back to pigeon forge. Let me know if you have any experience in this.
THX,
Eric

Any suggestions on short trips or hikes accessible with the RV. I don't have a TOAD. We are staying in Pigeon Forge

We rented a Jeep one time when we were there. Was a lot of fun.

The largest RV I've ever seen in there are class B and a few short class C's. I didn't have any problem driving my Chevy long bed, crew cab, dually through the loop @ 21' long.

There are trail heads all along the main roadway, and the entrance into Cades Cove. The biggest problem will be finding parking for an RV. There is parking at Cades Cove, not sure if it would accomodate an RV. You might try calling.

I'm glad I'm not the only person that would caution against going in there with an RV. I avoid that place like the plague. Was in on my motorcycle once and have never seen so many people stop to take pictures of cows/horses in my life. Do they not have them anywhere else in the world?
The narrow road is a blessing (for one way traffic) and a curse for begin caught behind someone that can't get off the road enough when they want to stop.

Been through it on a motorcycle, but would never take a RV other than a very small one through there. We did see a bear chase a guy on a bicycle a short distance. Good thing the bear gave up but we wanted away from there since we were on motorcycles.

I see your staying in Pigeon Forge, aka Las Vegas for children. I just wanted to make you aware that there is a tunnel on the way to Gatlinburg, check the height. The tunnel roof is rounded and it might be close on the side, however the road is 2 lanes going the same direction so you can straddle the center line. BTW, there are very few places to where you can park your car there. Recommend renting a car when you get there.

If you go to Townsend on the other side of the Smokys you can pick up several trail heads off Rt 73. Also there are places there to rent Jeeps or UTV's that you can use around the area such as Rich mountain road (a gravel road off Cades Cove) and others.

Did it once in a 31 foot motorhome. Road was OK but low tree limbs were a real problem. Made it through with a few roof scratches but never again
