Just wondering if anyone has the experience of taking their rig on the ferry between Aransas Pass, Texas and Port Aransas, Texas over to Mustang Island.

The information on the internet indicates there's a vehicle limit of 96 inches wide, in addition to height, length and weight restrictions. My MH is 102 inches wide, but falls within the other criteria. If I drive up and get in line, and they strictly enforce the 96 inches, then I have an additional 65 miles to/from my destination. Because I'm not full-timing, this matters some.

Are they strict, or do they have allowances, similar to some unwritten secondary road 'allowances' for width?

Thanks for any thoughts you might have.

Dogleg, we took our 1996 Bounder on the ferry in 1997 without any problems, but have not been back so I can't say for sure for now. Hopefully someone else will come along and have some more current information.

We live only a couple of hours from the coast and since 2002 have crossed from Aransas Pass to Port A. in our 2001 Alpine towing either our Harley or Jeep Liberty. They are very accomodating, giving us two lanes to stradle. However, on the larger ferry from Boliver Peninsula to Galveston Island, it was a tight squeeze with only one lane.

If you go be sure and watch for the dolphins.

Skip and clogan, Appreciate feedback! That is very encouraging to hear, and will save several hours and lots of unwanted miles on this trip. Didn't want to have to go clear over through Corpus and back up to Mustang in the MH, though I may very well go exploring over there by car.

Watching dolphins sounds like an interesting adventure for our first trip to that area!

Thanks, and

Happy New Year to all!

We had no problem last March with the 5th wheel and there were some VERY larhe MH's on it too. Justr a hassle waiting in line for up to 45 minutes at peak times.
