Arizona hwy 74(west of I17 N of Phoenix)

Could someone from Arizona help me out. Will be travelling South from Rt 40 Flagstaff towards Phoenix on I17. We are heading to Wickenburg and saw Hwy 74W near Cave Creek ext 223? looks like a closer way to get to Wickenburg without getting into Phoenix traffic(been there-done that-didn't do well!) Does anyone know what the road is like? Curvey,hairpin turns,good route?We plan on leaving Ontario wed Dec 1st. We are in no hurry, so will enjoy the trip. This is our Maiden Voyage-and our first time as snowbirds!!and our first time pulling a trailer..30'.
