Arizona to Rhode Island In August - HELP!!!

Greetings!

I have an older, but well running and maintained DP. Not wanting to bore anyone with details; I need to travel because of aging Family members back East, and flying to visit means leaving our rescued, special needs dog behind. So it looks like a LONG road trip.

The longest we have traveled in 4 years is 3 days on the road to Texas. Other than that we have dozens of trips in the 1000 - 1500 round-trip range.

This will be a 2700 mile trip EACH way. I plan to travel about 350-400 miles per day, and believe its about a 7 day road trip.

Your probably wondering, "WHAT'S YOUR QUESTION? I guess I'm just looking for any advice from seasoned-travelers, as well as tips and suggestions from anyone.

Thanks in advance!!

Hey you have your travelling companion so anything is doable. You will find that the miles comes easier west of the Mississippi. Travel through larger cities in off hours. Take breaks for both of you to stretch you legs. How do you feel about night driving?

If you're planning a trip of 2700 miles you need to take it slow. Don't try to bite off big chunks of hwy every day. Maybe 1/2 way you can stay somewhere for a day to recharge your batteries and stretch out. A good route for you is I-40 to just east of Knoxville then I-81 to Penn. I-76 east (Pa turnpike). NJ turnpike, to I-95 to RI. try to avoid George Washington bridge at rush hour.

Good luck and Happy Trails!

Thanks to all for the replies...

Maverik...I have never driven at night with my DP. I'm sure someday, a long Traffic delay might force me to be on the road after dark. But I prefer parking at before dark

Toni...Thanks for the directions! I used GS trip Planner to chart the trip, I'll compare that route with your suggestion...thanks again!

We've gone cross country from AZ to CT almost every year for the last 14 years. We have taken almost all the east-west interstates but have found I-40 to be our favorite. I-40 to I-81 to I-84 seems to be the best. Do not take I-95 until you are past the NY city area.

We average 400-450 miles a day. Get a early start after dawn and stop mid to late afternoon. I don't drive at night. The secret is get a good nights sleep.

Any questions PM me.

Safe journey.

Where in RI? New York is the tricky part. I usually take route 84 but plan to try the Tappan Zee on our next trip south in May.
